Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Silverman.
Hi Sandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened my little bookshop in 2020, a month before Covid shut everything down.
I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to let my dream die so I delivered books curbside and waited to be able to open my shop to the public.
In the years that have followed I’ve been able to create a unique experience for those looking for special books. I offer a variety of antique, rare and collectable books on a variety of subjects.
In the past few years I have been fortunate enough to be featured on the television program “ Florida On A Tankfull” and have also been awarded the “ Best of Florida “ award 3 years in a row.
My shop may be small but it’s packed with treasures. Just like the old saying “ don’t judge a book by its cover”, I like to say “ don’t judge a bookshop by its size”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a small business is never without its struggles. Covid, of course, was the biggest hurdle but also the economy plays a big roll in determining if any small business can thrive or even stay open.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work may not be considered art by some but the ethic of my shop, I’ve been told, is a work of art.
displays are carefully thought through so that each draws the attention of those browsing the selections.
I’m most proud of what I’ve been able to create in such a small space “I feel like I’m inside a bookshop in Europe” that statement from my patrons is exactly what I had hoped to achieve and I believe I’ve done just that.
My shop is truly a unique and definitely different from all other “ used book stores”. You’ll find no paperback books, no magazines, no board games. What you will find is an amazing array of “ previously loved” books for all interests and budgets.
How do you think about luck?
I’ve always been very fortunate so I’d say that luck has nothing to do with it. I choose to be successful, happy and healthy.
