Daily Inspiration: Meet Melissa Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Anderson.

Hi Melissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been drawn to real estate, but the path to becoming an agent was anything but linear. Looking back, I’m grateful for every twist and turn, each experience prepared me for the work I love doing today.

My first career was in the U.S. Air Force, where I served nine years at Little Rock AFB, Lakenheath AB in England, and Incirlik AB in Turkey. The Air Force instilled discipline, attention to detail, and integrity, qualities I still carry into my real estate business every day.

After my military service, I earned my degree in Elementary Education (K–8) and briefly taught first grade before realizing that wasn’t my long-term path. I transitioned into a civilian role as an Education Specialist for the Department of Surgery Residency Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). While living in Virginia, I began the process of getting my real estate license.

In 2014, my family relocated to St. Johns County, Florida. Instead of immediately getting licensed here, I opened a small franchise business. During that time, I learned the ins and outs of social media marketing, skills that would later become instrumental in my real estate career. When my grandmother, who had been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s, came to live with me, I closed my business to care for her full-time. While doing so, I managed social media accounts for businesses nationwide, many of them local real estate agents. That reignited my desire to pursue real estate myself.

After my grandmother passed in 2021, I finally took the leap and earned my license. Today, I primarily specialize in helping relocation buyers make a seamless move to St. Johns County. I have one amazing daughter, a high school senior (Class of 2026), who inspires me daily. We live in St. Johns County and share our home with my grandmother’s 14-year-old chihuahua and a rescue tabby cat.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road here has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Moving across states, navigating career transitions, going through divorce, and caring for family taught me resilience and perseverance. Those experiences shaped the way I connect with clients, with empathy, authenticity, and a genuine understanding of major life changes.

I believe being relatable and letting my personality shine through helps me stand out. I’m also deeply passionate about Northeast Florida. I love it here, and I think that enthusiasm helps clients get excited about their next chapter too.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in helping relocation buyers move to St. Johns County, one of Florida’s most desirable and fast-growing areas. From day one, I decided to focus on this community so I could truly become the local expert clients rely on.

Having personally moved multiple times and experienced the challenges of buying and selling homes, I know firsthand how stressful the process can feel. My goal is to make every move, especially cross-country relocations, as smooth and stress-free as possible. I prioritize clear, consistent communication and anticipate clients’ needs before they even realize them.

What sets me apart is that I treat real estate as a relationship-driven business, not just a transaction. My clients know I’m with them from day one through every decision, every question, and every milestone until they’re fully settled into their new home and beyond! The majority of my clients have become close friends, which is an added bonus to this business.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the agents who thrive in the next decade will be those who lead with passion, integrity, and genuine care for their clients, not just those chasing transactions. Technology will continue to evolve, but personal relationships, trust, and local expertise will hold steadfast.

I always say I’m in a relationship-based business, not a transaction-based one. Staying grounded in that philosophy, while adapting to a changing market, is what will keep the best agents standing strong.
