Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Medley.
Hi Mary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been interested in books since I was a small child I self-published my first book in my early twenties and several more since then. I am currently working on my first full length novel to be completed soon. I’ve always wanted to be a business owner as well so opening a bookstore was a natural progression of where my interests lie. With the current economy and the way it is, making it a mobile store instead of paying rent at a brick and mortar location will hopefully be able to keep my overhead low so I can offer many books to the community at great prices.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My current challenge is startup capital I have not taken any loans for this project and I have been doing it $100 at a time. Saving money and being very particular about bringing the best possible books to my community has been key. I’m sure more challenges will present themselves in the future and I will take them on and overcome each one.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I went from being an avid reader to a creative writer and now I move myself into business entrepreneur. I believe I will be able to give the community what they need in a bookstore as not only a reader but also a writer. We will focus on indie authors and artists to promote the regular people.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m excited to work with other small businesses within my community. I will be looking for places to park my bookstore to set up shop, I’ll be looking for word of mouth so working with other local businesses to help support them and myself. I can be found on all social medias including Facebook, Instagram,TikTok, and YouTube. The more followers I have on social media the more chance I’ll have to monetize which then I can dump back into the business. I also currently have a GoFundMe setup for anyone who would like to support me.
