Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Klose.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
With over 20 years of experience, Artistic Aire has grown to become a trusted name in the mural industry. Owner and artist, Lauren Klose, is dedicated to crafting exquisite hand-painted residential and commercial murals on any surface at any scale.
After a transformative study abroad in Florence, Italy in 2001 through James Madison University, Lauren served as an apprentice under the guidance of skilled masters in McLean, Virginia where she grew up. She learned the intricate arts of faux finishing and mural painting and founded Artistic Aire in 2003, marking the beginning of her journey as a professional artist. What sets Artistic Aire apart is Lauren’s unwavering commitment to turning visions into tangible masterpieces and finding creative solutions that are designed to not only transform spaces but also evoke emotions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve certainly had my share of memorable learning moments during my decades of mural painting. Paint spills, ladder falls, body injuries, sudden weather changes, and good old fashioned trial and error mistakes have all been challenges and obstacles that have gotten me to where I am in my career. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, and after I received the diagnosis of a torn rotator cuff a few years back, I started painting left-handed! During my kids baby/toddler years I gave up muraling to be home with my kids and used teaching piano (piano was my first true love!) as my fall back for income.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in hand painting commercial and residential murals on any surface on any scale and bringing my clients visions to life. I am known for my professionalism, attention to detail, and perfectionist nature. What sets me apart from other muralists is my ability to paint in any style (watercolor, abstract, realism, etc). Also, many muralists have only been painting for a few years as murals have become so trendy lately, but with the newbies comes a lack of professionalism. With me, you’re getting 25+ years of experience, dealing with people face to face, and making real connections with other business owners and people. To me it’s not just a painting. It’s the relationships I’m building with others.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Fake it til you make it! LOL. No, but seriously, in this professions, making mistakes is what helps you grow and learn as a muralist. Also, know your worth! Do not listen to clients that say, “If you do this for free it will give you so much exposure”… it won’t. Never devalue your work and what your work gives back.
