Daily Inspiration: Meet Kyle Perrone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Perrone.

Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been watching films since I was little. My parents were big film enthusiasts and I easily fell into it. This is how I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker. When I was in grade school, I started making stop-motion animated videos with Lego as a way to create my own films. From there I did some small shorts with a video camera.

When I got out of high school and went Flagler College I initially felt that I had to put these things on the side so I could pursue a less risky career. I started out in Psychology but I quickly changed into a double major of production and strategic communication after I could not take it anymore. I just could not hold myself back from doing what I love to do. I was able to learn how to work with others to make my ideas a reality and make money doing commercial work in a highly competitive field.

From there I fully committed to my passions and created multiple short film and commercial projects. A month before I graduated I secured a job at Advantage Design Group working in their video department, essentially ensuring me that I can still do what I love as a career. Now I get to travel the country filming college orientation videos during week days and I continue to work on my own personal films with the rest of the time I have. I am continuing to learn and to feed my creative outlets.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is definitely not smooth. I constantly doubted myself at first, even when I had people like my parents and my friends supporting me. It wasn’t until halfway through college that things started to smooth out and I was able to have a more consistent level of confidence in my ability to turn my passions into a career. I’m sure there will be more bumps along the road but at least I can take comfort in feeling like I am on the right one. I just need to keep moving forward and keep creating.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a full-time videographer for Advantage Design Group. I travel with a crew to colleges around the country and film videos for their online orientations. When I am not traveling, I assist in editing these projects. It has been a great learning experience so far where I can work with other professionals to create projects that are seen by hundreds of students. It feels good to know that our work is helping students get accustomed to their college experience.

Outside of work, I create short films under my banner: “Extraordinary Being Pictures”. I am currently doing post-production on a short film called “Ugly”. It is directed by me and my friend Tim Lamb stars in it and wrote it. Also starring in it is John Kearney, Elizabeth Myers, and Sean Landenberger. It will be completed towards the end of the year.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My parents are huge Star Wars fans and I’m pretty sure that it was the first real film I was exposed to. When I was like 3 or 4 or something they had made a 20-minute cut of A New Hope on VHS for me where most of the violence was removed and I would watch that over and over again. Those films were a huge part of my life growing up and probably impacted my desire to make films the most.
