Today we’d like to introduce you to Kurt Lanham.
Hi Kurt, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Lake Worth Florida and started playing guitar around 12 years old. I formed a band in high school that played backyard parties and social events. I moved to Atlanta in the early 90s. and formed an original band called Theatrics and recorded 10 of my songs for our debut album with the same name.
We continued to play out for the next four years opening up for bands, such as the Black Crowes, Jimmy Buffett and Widespread Panic.
In 1994 I received a call to join a band in Jacksonville, Alabama, where we recorded another 10 song original album titled The Capone’s. written by vocalist Rob Dunaway, and myself.
We signed with talent agency Southeast Attraction’s out of Birmingham and started to travel around Alabama for the next two years. Some of the members moved on and I joined another band Cool Beans.
An established band and already touring when I joined. We played college towns in the southeast circuit Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida. Mainly fraternities and sororities and bars/restaurants geared toward college students.
In 1996 we opened for The Blues Brothers revival at the House of blues in Orlando, Florida, and recorded another self titled album that contained 10 songs that I had written during that time. We toured for eight years playing nearly 250 shows a year and in 2001 I moved back to Florida.
Based out of Sebastian I started to play acoustic solo and duo shows. Usually beach bars and restaurants from West Palm Beach to Melbourne for the next three years.
When four hurricanes came through Florida in 2004 I moved to Tallahassee, where I met my wife and continued to play shows in the college scene.
We moved to Jacksonville in 2012 and I joined the band Love Monkey playing local venues until 2014 when my daughter was born. Around this time I entered the NASA space song contest to wake up the shuttle crew. Out of the 55,000 submissions my song “Another Day in Space “came in fourth place.
In December of that year, I performed an original song “Christmas time is here” live for news Jax 4.
In that same year, I release my first album on Spotify “Arrow of Time”.
I continue to play around 200 shows per year in the Jacksonville area as an acoustic Solo/duo act.
As of 2026 I have written, Recorded, produced and played all the instruments on 11 albums and eight singles currently available on any platform and started live streaming my YouTube channel Kurt Lanham live from the shows that I am currently playing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any profession, the road has not been perfectly smooth. There is a learning curve ,over the years. you look back and say I could have done that much easier. Realize some things are out of your control.

Playing live, writing and recording are two different mindsets but they seem to inspire each other and if you’re doing both it can be very productive.
Some of the things I’m proud of are crossing the musical spectrum. Diversity is a great asset to entice the listener to return. .
I think longevity separates the Pack. It is a self-employed business you have to stay diligent
Keep writing songs,, recording, practicing, challenging yourself, continually trying to get better at your craft.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
There’s a group of friends I share music and video clips with almost daily.I realized the only restrictions are the ones we put on ourselves. When you realize how much remarkable talent there is out there it sort of puts everything in perspective. I try to use it as inspiration.
