Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendal Owen.
Hi Kendal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I graduated from the University of Florida in 2020 with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in Communication Studies. Upon graduation, I had a plan to move to NYC to pursue communications within the fashion industry; however, the Lord had other plans. I ended up staying in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL, and landed a wonderful job in the corporate world.
While in this job, I met Haley Davis, who is now my team lead and she pitched the idea of real estate. The corporate world was bitter-sweet to me- I had the drive to push myself and work hard to succeed; however, I didn’t want to look back on my life in 10-15 years and see that I spent the majority of my time behind a desk. I chose to make the jump in February 2021 to quit my job and fully commit to real estate. I took my course and got my license while I was working as an inside sales agent and learning from those in my brokerage.
Looking back, I’m so glad I did. I am the type of person who is always looking to maximize efficiency. I analyze the checkout lines in Publix WAAAAY more than I should – “How many items does this person have vs. this one, and how is that affected when the cashier is a tad slower on that register.” I want to maximize my time. With real estate, I am able to crank out work in 4-5 hours that would’ve had to be stretched to fit an 8-hour workday all while sipping on americanos at my favorite coffee shops with my golden retriever at my feet.
Don’t get me wrong, the hustle is REAL in real estate, there’s little to no security when you start, but you just have to buckle down and get the job done.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh goodness, no. From graduating amidst a global pandemic to quitting a financially secure job for a commission-based position, my life has been complete chaos over the past two years.
I think the defining factor when people ask “How did you do it?” is simply, “I have faith that this is where the Lord wants me to be, and He will get me through whatever He puts in my path.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a residential real estate agent in Jacksonville, FL. I work for Redzone Realty Group in The Haley Davis Team. I specialize in new-build communities and waterfront properties. I grew up on waterfront property in Jacksonville, so I am well-versed in what to look for when considering property around a source of water.
I think I am most proud of my ability to provide my clients with superior service, whether it be something as small as seeing houses more than once, or giving them realistic expectations and providing credible market knowledge – my clients are my priority throughout the entire transaction.
Our team within our brokerage is a well-oiled machine. We have five full-time agents (one being a certified broker), a marketing manager, a transaction coordinator, and an inside sales agent. We have mastered the art of delegating tasks properly so our clients can get the most efficient service in every aspect of the transaction. When you choose our team, you did not only get an agent, you have an entire team focusing on your best interest- nothing slips through the cracks.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think my drive to take risks and my faith goes hand-in-hand. I never want to be known as someone who didn’t try their absolute hardest to achieve a goal. With that go-getter mindset, I’ve found that no task is too big, especially when having the faith-based mindset.
There are many times that are challenged with different circumstances; however, I always fall back on “for I know the plans I have for you.”
