Daily Inspiration: Meet Joseph Orallo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Orallo.

Hi Joseph, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is JP Orallo founder of the first refill company in the state of Florida it all started when there was a time where a large hospital system for was going through a change of health care insurance. And exactly at the same time Another insurance company was also debating changes in a different and also large hospital system. This caused a massive amount of confusion through patients all throughout jacksonville. People could not see their providers because their insurance instatntly did not work.

This left thousands of patients without a provider without their medications. During this panic, people were finding my personal number and calling me in all hours of the night because of the fear of not having their medications. During this time I did the best I could for as many as I could; to refill their medications. After all the negotiations were finished thousands of patients were displaced from two of the largest hospital systems in Jacksonville.

I then thought of a medication refill company for those individuals that do not have a primary care, who just need an intermittent coverage of medications. We evaluate the patient, evaluate the medications and as long as the patients are safe and the medications are not controlled. We can then refill the medications at the pharmacy of thier choice. We partnered with several local pharmacies in town to give the best prices and or free delivery to their home.

Since we do not deal with insurance we have one flat rate for medication refills 55 dollars. We have now expanded to international travelers coming into the state of Florida. As long as the medication is easily converted we can send it to any pharmacy in the state of Florida.

There are stipulations, we can not refill the medication for 1 year because at that point; we would be no different than a primary care. We don’t treat the conditions, because again we are a refill company focused on refilling life saving medications. Any changes to medication dose and or therapy will be done by their specialist and or provider.

But there is another issue; because Jacksonville had an influx of 1million individuals move into the city in 2025. Trying to find a primary care provider has been hard and delayed. There are more and more patients requiring thier presctiptions extended untill they see their new provider and specialist. This means more fear, and panic of people trying to get their medications.

The pricing was set at a flat rate to be competitive with copay pricing as well as urgentcare pricing. We are virtual and can make time for any patient at thier convenience and ours. It has been 2 years since the inception of the company and we will continue to improve access to health care the community.

Our next phase is to work with Wilfed Torres founder of #wegotchu a non for profit organization to help those who do not have any means; get their medications refilled. This is currently something that will also improve access to providers in a high demand for refilling medications until they find their new doctors and or specialists. On top of finding housing through their non-for-profit organization as well as even helping them get a job.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy and slow road. Originally the company was founded with 2 individuals and the company did not have any profits. As with anything it will take time.

Being a provider I really did not know the dealings of what happens to medications when they are high value and require prior authorizations. This is the appeal process that everyone has to go through to get medications approved. As providers we prescribe the medication and hope that the patient will get it in the pharmacy.

Well I had to learn how to do prior authorizations. I had to learn to set up a company that was previously mostly managed by my previous partner. There was a tremendous amount of fear uncertainty, or even giving up on my dream of being a business owner. We are now a profitable company, and definitely require a second provider. William Sewell ARNP is now spear heading most of the work as I continue to market and expand the company with other endevors. Until all the kinks are ironed out we will try to stay mostly in the state of Florida. As we grow we hope to include many other States and or cities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a nurse practitioner focused in family medicine. However mostly worked in critical care and lungs / pulmonology. I worked in most of the hospitals in town in the ICU even during COVID. Though I mostly work in primary care these days I miss the hustle the bustle and the critical thinking of the ICU.

On top of being in healthcare my other passion is to teach students. I’ve been teaching students now for a little over 15 years to be nurse practitioners. It makes me proud to know that I have been part of a community that has grown; but most of the younger health care practitioners in this town are my previous students who are successful business owners, employees, and entreprenures. They all told me in the past that I could do my own thing but I never knew what I wanted.

I think that’s what sets me apart was that I was always focused on, helping others until I found a venue to help myself ontop of helping others. The network of previous students who I taught are now teaching me how to build a buisness. I was previously their professor, but now they are my mentors and or professors to business, such as Ashley Rousell owner and founder of NOLA CARE and Shane Grindle Owner and founder of Medprenure and Palm health.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
No matter the field of study there will always be a max cap to your diploma. It is when you realize that the world is changing and that we can expand our diploma and or education to improve yourself and the community. Finding that vision and or realization of what you want to do is one of the hardest components to being a business owner.

The second is the fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of cost, fear of failure. That is exactly what you need to motivate you harder to not fail. I consistently found the most optimal ways to improve cost as well as to reduce risk. The only time your business will fail is you personally give up.

Lastly continue to help the community and change the future. I love teaching students specifically nurse practitioner students. I dedicate my time during the day not only to take care of patients but to teach the Future providers that will be taking care of us. Watching them transition from bedside nursing to being providers is one of the most satisfying, fulfilling, and gratifying moments in life. 15 years of teaching these students and seeing how they grow and become specialists in our community is always an amazing and worthwhile humbling experience.
