Hi Hitasha; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Monster Crew because of my son. Hendrix is currently three years old. It took me six years, five procedures, and two operations before I became pregnant with Hendrix. My wife and I are still shocked we have a baby. He was born right at the start of the pandemic, and we thankfully spent a lot of time at home with him. Naturally, I took a million pictures and videos. By the time he turned one, he was over me and my obsession with recording him, To the point when he saw a camera in my hand. He turns his back to me. That gave me one of my 1st t-shirt ideas. It says on the back. “I’m not turning around for your picture. Other moms had the same noncompliance with their toddlers, and we decided to document toddlers’ sometimes colorful behaviors in graphic tees. I started putting my ideas in motion in 2022. I planned to start a shirt line for boys. I was also tired of choosing between trucks and dinosaurs for Hendrix t-shirts. We often referred to Hendrix as our little monster. So we knew the brand had to represent him and his sometimes-colorful behavior. My wife, Lee, and I jokingly discussed Hendrix secretly meeting up with a crew of toddlers trying to take over the world, and brand ideas started falling into place. Initially, we were only going to create a clothing line for boys. To give boys more clothing options. Hower ever, I am Black, Female, and Lesbian, and being inclusive is also important to me. We started with one monster. We now have three. Boys inspire the Hendrix collection. Girls inspire the Holiday collection, and gender-neutral kids inspire the Haven collection.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have never considered myself a crafty person. When I first imagined this line, it was just t-shirts. We now offer tees, backpacks, hats, Monster tag necklaces, and even sippy cup tumblers. With more items on the way. All handmade by Hendrix’s assistants, aka Mom’s. Stalker Mom, that’s me, Hitasha Lee, and Cool Mom, Juanita Lee.

Professionally I am a Medical Coder. I have been in my profession for almost fifteen years. I love it.
What makes you happy?
Having a happy home life makes me happy. My wife and my son make me happy every day. Even though I can’t sing, singing karaoke makes me happy. Learning through this clothing, I can do more and can expand myself. It makes me happy.
