Daily Inspiration: Meet David Layne

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Layne.

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’ve always had a passion for media and the arts but the thing that got us started was music. My passion was sparked at the age of 10 when one day my dad came home and was going through some CD’s He’s just bought and there was one that he hated “Bone Thugs and Harmony” he said ” hey david you want this (sh*t)[omit if necessary], I cant understand what they’re talking about” and threw it to me, Since then Bone Thugs, personally, has been my favorite group. I was so fascinated i started trying to rap like KrazyBone and by the age of twelve, I was Creating my own beats on…A PLAYSTATION, like the original one haha so in a way you can say i’ve always had an affinity for tech and innovation, always determined to figure it out, eventually by 15/16 I was Producing and Audio Engineering all the artists in the neighborhood and became known to most as “D Reddi”, and my talents grew from producing music to creating music videos, and I even started learning 3D Design in Blender so eventually in 2018 I Officially opened my Full-service studio “Reddi Or Not Multimedia”. When I opened I didn’t Think at one point we’d start creating games, I didn’t realize 3D Development would be one of the most important skills in staying ahead but when Covid came I was Forced to evolve, challenged with the question how can I keep artists connected? So I started making small VR experiences like this: https://davidl341.sg-host.com/ and as i was developing more projects it hit me ” Its time to virtually connect the city, create a space where businesses artists and entrepreneurs can all be highlighted`and promoted in a much more subtle way that doesn’t interrupt user experience but instead becomes a part of it. This is what sparked our Jacksonville Fortnite project and ultimately our goal to bring this city to a virtual map!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely been challenging, especially considering the scope of the project, with the fact that we Haven’t been able to get any grants or business funding it definitely slows down the process cause these developments aren’t compensated and is a project we work on at the expense of our personal time and lives. Last year i made public our first map: Jacksonville-Downtown in October, that same month 10/22/24 I took the biggest lost of my career and life, my mother, she was my best friend and my number one supporter, at 7am this was who i shared my ideas with, losing her i lost myself, I lost my passion, I started working on autopilot and it took a while to move forward but slowly i pulled back together my passion taking flight like never before. One of our last conversations echo daily in my head, her constantly reminding me to “be humble”, to stay focused and I follow that. This year our city will make it on the map like never before.+

The best thing about Jacksonville are the possibilities, there’s always room to grow for everyone. It’s so big there’s a place in it for every niche.
