Daily Inspiration: Meet Cheyenne Lefaivre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Lefaivre.

Hi Cheyenne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started in Murray Hill, where two friends were brought together by a shared love of music, creative energy, and a desire to build something of their own. Not long after, they connected with the missing piece of the puzzle, who was running a coffee shop just a few miles down the road. That is where everything clicked, where flavor met its fate.

Josh, Ray, and Cheyenne are the how behind the why of Black Cat Kombucha. From the very beginning, the goal was to prove a simple idea, that something can be both healthy and genuinely enjoyable to drink. There was a clear gap in the kombucha space, products that checked the wellness box but missed the mark on flavor, and they knew they could do better.

The mission goes beyond just making great drinks. It is about creating thoughtful, intentional products that help connect people to a sense of purpose, whether through what they consume or the community they are part of. Much like the drinks they craft, the team is unconventional. They embrace that identity, challenge the status quo.

At the end of the day, even a black cat has its moment, and no matter what, cats always land on their feet.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that’s something a lot of business owners can relate to. It has been far from a smooth road, and we’re under no illusion that it ever will be. Along the way, we’ve taken on the challenge of educating people about what we do while also working hard to carve out our place in a crowded space.

We’ve weathered the closure of our original home brewery at Lemon Street, faced the loss of friends, jobs, partners, and watched many of the businesses that started alongside us come and go. Through it all, we’ve continued to push forward. We’re committed to persevering in the years ahead, staying true to what we believe in, and continuing to build something that lasts.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
If there’s one word that defines us as a team, it’s tenacity. We specialize in beverage, from fermented drinks like kombucha to functional beverages, with a clear focus on bridging the gap between flavor and function. We believe people shouldn’t have to choose between something that tastes great and something that’s good for them.

We’re incredibly proud of the products we’ve created, but what means even more to us are the relationships we’ve built along the way. Through our work, we’ve found a true home within a community of innovative, forward-thinking business owners who not only share knowledge freely but also show up to support one another. That sense of connection and collaboration is just as important to us as anything we put in a bottle.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just make drinks, we create experiences rooted in intention, creativity, and authenticity. We’re constantly pushing ourselves to challenge expectations, refine our craft, and bring something meaningful to the people we serve.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Personally, I’m a big fan of podcasts. I listen to a handful regularly, mostly as a way to unwind and reset. A couple favorites of mine right now are Inside True Crime with Matthew Cox and Horror Whiskey Company. As far as inspiration goes, I tend to find it everywhere whether it’s in a long day of hard work, camaraderie with my friends and brothers, or sitting down to write songs.

Josh is a lover of music history, the Beat Generation, and an avid reader who’s currently got his nose buried in a good Western. Ray is always chasing inspiration too whether it’s through books, podcasts, or really anything he can get his hands on. He’s an avid cyclist, coffee lover, and professional rug cutter

But the one thing that truly unites all of us is music. That’s the thread that keeps us grounded and pushes us through the hard days.
