Today we’d like to introduce you to Calin Lucaciu.
Hi Calin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My introduction to woodworking began in my teenage years. While attending high school I spent weekends working in a woodshop gaining hands-on experience and learning the fundamentals of materials, tools and construction, those early experiences established an appreciation for precision ,proportion and the discipline required to build well. After high school, I attended college and later entered medical school. Although it was a respected and demanding path, I ultimately recognized that my strengths were better aligned with building, design and independent enterprise. Stepping away became a deliberate decision to pursue work that combines craftsmanship with long-term business ownership. I began my professional career in South Florida, where I launched a furniture finishing business, specializing in painting, staining, and fine surface work. That phase refined my eye for detail and thought the importance of consistency, restraint, and delivering a finished product that elevates the surrounding space. Several years later I relocated to Lake City, Florida, settling on acreage that allowed me to expand into full custom builds. I established a boutique, millwork, practice, focused on architectural cabinetry, and one of a kind pieces. I personally develop all project drawings and blueprints by hand using the drawing process to refine proportion joinery and construction before fabrication begins. I operate solo by design. It allows for clarity, accountability, and a high level of quality control from concept through installation. Currently my work is concentrated primarily in the Jacksonville region, where I collaborate with homeowners, designers and builders on high-end residential and select commercial projects, I design and build all Turner Plumbing vanities along with custom architectural pieces tailored to specific spaces. My work has extended from North Carolina to South Florida, built through reputation, referrals and long standing professional relationships. I am married with two adult children currently attending the university and I continue to lead the business with a focus on craftsmanship, discretion and sustainable growth. Each project is approached not only as a design opportunity, but as a commitment to delivering work that reflects enduring value, thoughtful leadership and a refined way of living.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most of the challenges have been internal, learning how to stay disciplined, confident and consistent while building the business. Working solo has been a deliberate choice mainly to keep a close eye on quality and the overall process. At times it can be overwhelming handling every part of the work from design to production to client communication, but it’s also given me a strong hands-on understanding of the business. There’s also a personal, spiritual reason for working this way. The quiet allows me to work in silence, stay present and observe my own mind as I work. That awareness helps me remain grounded, focused, and intentional, and it naturally carries into the quality of the work I deliver.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design and build custom cabinetry and architectural millwork. My work ranges from kitchens and built-in to closets, vanities, bars and one of a kind pieces that are designed specifically for the space and the people who live with them. I handled the full process, from concept and design through fabrication and installation, which allows for consistency and attention to detail throughout. I specialize in work that is clean, functional and thoughtfully proportioned. I am known for listening closely to clients, translating their ideas into practical designs, and building pieces that feel intentional rather than overproduced. I am most proud of the trust Client‘s place in me end of creating work that feels solid, timeless, and surely made for them. What sets me apart is the level of care and presence I bring to the process. Working solo allows me to stay closely involved in every detail, maintain quality, control, and approach each project as a craft rather than a product. I don’t rush work or follow trends. I focus on building things well with purpose and with long-term value in mind.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I appreciate most about the city of Jacksonville is its balance. It’s a growing city with real opportunity, while still leaving room for individuality and craftsmanship. As a woodworker, I value working in a place where custom work and thoughtful design are truly appreciated. While I am based outside the city, much of my work takes place in Jacksonville. I feel a genuine sense of gratitude being able to contribute to such a vibrant and evolving community. The city’s culture, diversity, and natural beauty make it a rewarding place to work and to serve clients.
