Daily Inspiration: Meet Brittany Zimmerman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Zimmerman.

BRITTANY Zimmerman

Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
After an inspiring trip to Paris that spring, Brittany Zimmerman launched Bleu Bee Designs, a full-service boutique experience design firm, in 2019 in Jacksonville, FL. Surrounded by art, architecture, florals, and beauty, it was apparent that it was time to leap from a 9-5 job in education to educating clients while creating beautiful spaces within their homes. Brittany’s earliest inspirations include colorful spaces within her childhood home, trips to antique stores with her mother, with whom she shares several creative passions and an overall joyful and sunny disposition from the quaint and beautiful city on the coast she was born and raised in. Brittany’s values are woven throughout her business practices, and she finds it vital to her community’s success to source from independent, local, and small businesses while promoting an ongoing dedication to quality and craftsmanship by working with vendors who proudly make their products in the USA. After just three years, Brittany has worked with over 25 clients on projects ranging from one-room decorative finishes to whole home and remodeling projects complete with furnishings and decor. As the wife of a U.S. Navy Officer, Brittany’s frequent military moves require a pivotal mindset that flexes best when given new challenges. Much like in design, Brittany strives to create beauty wherever she and her husband call home.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Jumping from a background in event design to education (a much less stressful job in many ways than event design, but not entirely what she desired for the long term), Brittany has utilized the many experiences she’s faced with digging deeper into her determination to make something from nothing. Being a Navy wife, Brittany often has to juggle projects across the country while supporting the mission of the military and doing so with grace. Her husband’s deployments offer a unique opportunity to take on additional projects in various cities while maintaining a client base in Florida. Learning the nuances of design and the construction environment also proved a welcome challenge to Brittany. Diving deep into educating herself with reputable builders and contractors, Brittany enjoys being onsite with her clients and educating them during the design-build process.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Known for her fresh and colorful take on traditional interiors, Brittany’s designs blend antique and modern furnishings in a classic yet lighthearted way. You’ll often find her client’s personal collections, art, and heirlooms woven throughout her design, curating a collected and layered home that feels both fresh and familiar. With a creative mind, Brittany is always ideating. She has created additional outlets for business, including Art Consulting with The Untamed Square Art Collective and a bespoke line of heirloom quality gifts curated by artisans throughout the Southeast, lovingly named Lucille Lane after her late grandmother. Brittany is most proud of the unique design process that she created and uses with each client project. From ideating concept development to layering in architectural elements and building a room’s scheme around anchor pieces – the 18 steps are her proprietary information to creating meaningful, abashedly curated homes representative of her client’s stories.

How do you think about luck?
Brittany doesn’t believe in luck, but she does believe that every experience and scenario offers a learning experience, and what she chooses to do with those experiences has led her to where she is today. Brittany is outgoing and bubbly and finds true joy in connecting with other creative entrepreneurs. She has opened many doors for podcasts, magazine articles, and new collaborative products and services to offer her clients. She’s not afraid to take a risk and ask someone outright for a referral and knows when best to stay in her zone of genius.
