Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantelle Thompson.
Hi Shantelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Shantelle Thompson. I’m 33 years old, and I reside in Jacksonville, Florida. Cypher Warz is a rap war contest for Artists to showcase their talent in the city. This will prove who is one of the best. Cypher Warz is in memory of my best friend Essie “Spody G” Hill, who enjoyed battle rapping before he passed away, so Cypher Warz was established to keep his name and legacy alive. I started at The Network Bar&Grill, located at 1111 Cesery Blvd, which is the home of Cypher Warz. I aim to network and build relationships with underrated artists and get them heard. I showcase events that include a cash prize, free video shoot, studio time, podcasts, and online radio interviews, which hits 50 other states for the winner. I focus on working with artists who take their music seriously and see consistency no matter what. As an artist, you must take in constructive and harsh criticism. You must invest in yourself and lock in with the right people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It had its ups and downs because so many artists put their trust in so many people who sell them dreams. They want to give up but are not locking in with the right people.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed nail tech here in Jacksonville, Florida. I’m licensed in treatment for all-level kids. I’m a certified juvenile officer. My brother is lost in the system and aged out of foster care, so my job description consists of kids in foster care or the Department of the juvenile justice system. I love kids; I have a soft spot for them. Some kids don’t have support from family or know what genuine love is because they had a rough life. I got into this field because it’s a family out there with my brother in their care, so I got a child of my own to show them how genuine love is to feel, praying somebody is treating my brother with the same love until I find him again. What sets me apart is that I do it out of love others may do it for money.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like about the city is that you can see yourself growing because it’s so big, but you must be prepared for the hate. You can’t trust everybody smile and shake everybody hand; everybody’s intentions could be better. Some people will congratulate you and pray you fall. It’s a lack of support. I hate it’s based on popularity. The underdogs are so underrated in the city because they support who’s known.
