Conversations with Sariah Kee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sariah Kee.

Sariah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my track and field journey in middle school it was my first year of middle school and I decided to try track and field for the first time. Back in elementary I use to love running I ran against all the boys and I beat everyone I just love to run so in middle school I tried track now I admit the workout were hard but I push through. I started the 100m hurdles in 6th grade my coach put me over there because I had long legs lol. But I enjoyed it because a lot of people didn’t want to jump and run and I knew a lot of people couldn’t jump and run. I would train and train to be honest none of my coaches were hurdle coaches so I really just taught myself a bit but they were still help a lot of help. I started watching videos of hurdlers and I’d study I wasn’t the best back then but that changed. My second year of middle school i honestly don’t know what happened it’s like I knew what had to be done and I did it the season was very good and I was way better that same year I ended up breaking the 100 meter hurdle record with a time of 15.43. The following year was okay but honestly I slacked off a little I didn’t pr but the very first meet I ran a 15:48 it honestly was the closet I’ve ever ran to my pr. I doubted myself a lot and I couldn’t really see how great I was because I couldn’t run my time or something els. My freshman year in high school I was a little rusty in the beginning I ran 17’s but I told myself I would not stop until I’ve won or became number 1. But towards the end of the season i’ve pr’d to a 14.99 and I haven’t let up and I’m not planning too no time soon.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A couple challenges for me was having to give up things or people telling me that I wasn’t fast enough. Because I had learned that in order to be the best you have to give things up like time and you have to take this commitment you have to give something up in order to be great it could be time it could be mentality or anything els. Like I could be the best hurdler you know but with a bad mentality I could doubt myself before every race and do good. Also with people telling me I’m not fast enough that was a challenge because some meets I’d get beat in the 200 or the 400 and I’d refer to what they said but to be honest I honestly don’t know why I was like that because it could just me and me how I think is how I perform.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a track and field athlete I run the 100md, 100mh, 200md, 400,md, and also the 400mh. And 4×1, I do triple jump and high jump But my main race is the 100 meter hurdles. I am most know for hurdling and a moment I am most proud of has to be when I broke into the 14’s as a freshman in high school. Something that sets me apart from others has to be my mind set or how much I put in the work I’m never satisfied when practice is over I put in extra work and I strive for the best and for greatness!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
A characteristic that i have well I believe I am very humble I’d be proud but I wouldn’t believe that I am better than another because we are all human but I think my humbleness is key
