Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalinde Trinnear.
Hi Rosalinde, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved art and design. In high school I was requisitioned to paint a school mural and spent my days covered to my elbows in paint. I worked my way through college as a hair stylist where I had the opportunity to assist in fashion shows and do hair and makeup for the Atlanta Opera while I studied art and languages in school. It was during the years spent traveling with my young family that I developed my love of horticulture. From the expansive landscapes of North America to the gorgeous coasts of New Zealand, I learned about the ecosystems and native foliage of every location I visited, experimenting with different plants and material palettes as I landscaped and redesigned my own homes and office spaces.
After moving back to the Jacksonville area, I dove into the plant palette of NE Florida and was then up to my elbows in dirt most days. I became certified in feng-shui for biophilic design and began working at a local plant nursery to educate myself on native and Florida-friendly plants. I landed my first big landscape design job through referral from a local interior designer and my landscape design career took off from there. I stepped out on my own with my company, Elemental Spaces, not quite two years ago, and I haven’t looked back. My expertise is in providing curated outdoor experiences for my clients, both residential and commercial, incorporating ecologically sound principles and utilizing native and Florida-friendly species.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been fortunate during my career to meet incredible people through whom I have had opportunities to learn, create and grow. While the road to the present has been winding, each bend has contributed gems from which I now pull perspective, wisdom, and strength. Stepping out on my own was one of the scariest and most empowering decisions I have made to date. Being an entrepreneur and a working mother requires me to constantly educate myself and hone my skills in creative problem solving, crisis management, counseling, organization, and bookkeeping to name a few. Each obstacle resolved adds to my store of experience to help with the next challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in creating spaces for people to be at home in the outdoors. Whether it’s a personal sanctuary to commune with nature or a gathering space to commune with others, my designs harmoniously link the built world with the natural world. I create sustainable and ecologically sound designs, ensuring the landscape is not only beautiful and functional, but that it also endures.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My grandmother’s citrus trees in California. I can still smell the richness of the dark soil mixed with the bright scent of the citrus.
