Conversations with Latreika Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latreika Jones

Hi Latreika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been a person of routine, dating back to even when I was a child. Not to say that I’m completely against change,
but the feeling of change does bring anxiety. That said, I’ve remained with the same employer, in the food service distribution industry, for the last 20 years. To summarize my job role responsibilities, I’m the middle component between the sales reps and delivery drivers in the fulfillment of food service disposables for your favorite businesses in the hospitality sector. I have pursued different things during this time at my 9-5 or should I say 5-2 (not 5 a.m., but 5 p.m. -2 a.m. for all the non-conventional work hour professionals), but nothing gave me a smile on my face until I started making chocolate-dipped treats in late 2022. It began as an interest that evolved from one in-person class session in my home state of South Carolina. The love and support received since starting this journey have been amazing. What makes things more interesting are the relationships within my personal life that make a true business ecosystem. My family and friends are my network as I have cake artists, balloon decorators, make-up artists, event decorators, DJs, and hair stylists one phone call away. Many of which reside outside of Jacksonville and even Florida, but are always available for a guidance call.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road of a small business owner isn’t for the faint of heart, especially in the specialty desserts market. I’ve always heard the phrase, “It takes money to make money”, but it takes mental fortitude beyond more than drive and passion during those uncertain weeks of low or no sales. It’s also the ability to be honest, with yourself, when something isn’t working and pivot. Our biggest struggle so far, as a new business, is brand awareness. The tough balance between trying to have everyone know who you are, to grow your customer base, while not over-extending capital. Having a loving family that supports your passion goes a long way in this journey. Also, while I reduced hours, I haven’t quit the “day” job quite yet. My husband and two sons, 4 and 8 years old, are my “Why” on those mornings when I just got off at 2 am and needed to complete a treat order by 10 a.m. the same day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in gourmet chocolate-covered treats for your ordinary chocolate craving and/or occasions and events. Whether you’re a fan of milk chocolate or white chocolate, there is something for everyone who enjoys chocolate. Our dedication to providing an unwavering commitment to quality with our ingredients sets us apart in this niche. Also, creativity comes to life with our unconventional offerings, i.e. chocolate-dipped grapes, bananas, Rice Krispies, pretzel rods, and apple slices.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Coincidentally, when my siblings and I went to one of the neighbor’s homes that sold candy and chips to us after school. We would find the simplicity of enjoying sweets shortly after being dropped off from the bus each afternoon.
