Hi Latania and Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
SWL Medical Services is a family-owned mobile phlebotomy company operated by mother and daughter. We started this business as we saw a need for phlebotomy services outside a hospital and a doctor’s office. We come to our client’s homes to draw their blood or provide COVID-19 testing, and we have seen the tremendous benefits it has afforded our community. Individuals with no means of transportation, home-bound individuals, and others love the convenience of getting medical services in the comfort of their homes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Road for us has not been smooth. The struggles we encountered along the way were launching without much forward-thinking, ineffective marketing not connecting with the experts in our Field. We had a vision and just started working.

Hello, my name is Latania Smith-Washington, one of the owners and founders of SWL Medical Services. We are a black female family-owned business in Jacksonville, FL; we offer affordable healthcare services in the community for the insured and uninsured; SWL specializes in diagnostic testing. We are known for Covid Testing. I’m most proud of being the second in our family to start and successfully run a business. What sets us apart as we are still learning and growing is that we continuously reach out to those in our Field to assist so they won’t fall into the same pitfalls as we did.

That’s a tough question. In life and business, I stand on the plant the seed, give it time, put in the work and watch the harvest.
