Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer & Scott Harris.
Hi Jennifer & Scott , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For Goodness Cake actually started with a mixer. After our son was born, Scott bought me one as a little “welcome back to yourself” gift. I was deep in the baby haze, and baking gave me something creative to focus on again. What started as a fun hobby quickly became something more, I realized how much I loved it, and before long we were opening our first storefront in 2015!
The storefront was a great experience, but with two small kids, it was a lot more than I was prepared for. I was trying to keep a variety of foods in stock, but that meant tons of waste; food and money. In 2016, I decided to close the shop and switch to a Cottage Food Bakery. It turned out to be the best decision I could’ve made. It gave me the flexibility I needed and let me focus on what I really loved, creating beautiful buttercream cakes.
Then in 2020, everything changed again when Scott sold his tattoo studio and officially joined me. He’s always been an incredible artist—his tattoo work was incredibly detailed with both stunning color and black and white realism. And those same skills translated beautifully into cake design. Suddenly, we weren’t just making cakes that tasted great, we were creating edible sculptures. Scott brought this whole new level of artistry, imagination, and engineering to what we do. Once he joined, our style completely evolved. We could do fondant, sculpting, airbrushing, realistic textures. That’s really when For Goodness Cake found its identity and took off.
In 2023, we filmed our first cake show, Cake Toppers, which aired on Hulu and Disney+. It was such a wild and amazing experience—especially because we got to do it together. And to top it all off… we won!
These days, we specialize in big, over-the-top, hyper-realistic cakes. Often inspired by animals, art, and our clients’ wildest ideas. We deliver cakes all over Florida and still get such a kick out of turning our clients’ craziest visions into edible art.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, plenty! When we opened our storefront in 2015, I quickly realized it wasn’t what I wanted to be doing. I was trying to keep shelves stocked with cupcakes and cookies for walk-ins, and it created so much food and money waste. Deep down, I knew that wasn’t my dream. I didn’t want to make cupcakes, I wanted to make cakes. So closing the storefront and switching to a home-based cottage bakery was hard, but it was the right move.
Then in 2020, COVID really threw us for a loop. Overnight, events stopped and suddenly there were no cakes going out the door. It was stressful not knowing what would happen next, but it also gave us a rare opportunity to slow down. We reconnected with our neighbors, spent time with our kids, and had space to think about what we really wanted our business to be.
That’s when we decided to take a leap. We started learning new recipes and techniques—working with fondant, airbrushing, sculpting—things that were totally new to us at the time. It was scary to pivot and completely change our style, but it turned out to be the best thing we ever did.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We make cakes like nothing you’ve ever seen before—truly! Our focus is on hyper-realistic, high-detail cakes that look more like art pieces than dessert. We love creating cakes that make people stop and say, “Wait… that’s a cake?” From sloths with textured fur to lifelike sugar flowers and perfectly airbrushed cat eyes, every detail is intentional and designed to make you look twice.
We specialize in fondant-shaped cakes, sugar work, and intricate edible details—and sometimes, our cakes even move! It’s fun to figure out the engineering behind them and bring a little magic to the table.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the teamwork behind it all. Scott and I both bring different strengths to the business, and over the years we’ve grown so much together. Each cake we make is a reflection of that—creativity, collaboration, and a whole lot of heart.
