Conversations with Evelyn Toro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Toro.

Hi Evelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I actually got my start in photography at my old church. People were so sweet and kept telling me how much they loved my photos. Their motivation gave me the push I didn’t know I needed. Then, in what might be the most selfless birthday move ever, my husband bought me a camera for his birthday (best investment ever…. if you ask me!) That encouragement meant so much and really planted the seed for what would come next.

At first, I charged just $30 a session, mostly because I felt bad asking for more while I figured it all out. Fast forward, and what was supposed to be a little side hustle turned into a full-blown family business. These days, we’re booked almost every weekend (sometimes during the week too!), well-known in the area, and still growing like crazy. What started as a fun extra has become how we support our family of 7, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, it’s definitely not been a smooth road, being an entrepreneur is no joke! The biggest struggle? The unpredictable income. Some days we’re juggling three sessions and chatting with five more leads at the same time, and other days… crickets. It can feel like a rollercoaster, but somehow that’s part of what makes it so rewarding.

Like most small business owners, we’ve had to learn (sometimes the hard way!) how to juggle all the things, marketing, client communication, editing, bookkeeping…. you name it. And let’s not forget balancing family life while running a business. There are long nights, last-minute changes, unexpected hiccups, and a constant need to stay creative and motivated. It’s hard work, but seeing the joy our photos bring to people and knowing we are capturing their legacy is so worth it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in wedding and event photography, and we also offer photo booth add-ons that guests absolutely love! Beyond that, we photograph couples, families, and branding sessions…basically, we’re here to capture all of life’s big (and small) moments.

What we’re most proud of is the experience we create for our clients. So many of our clients become friends, and that connection shines through in our work.

What really sets us apart is the experience we create. We’re not just showing up to snap photos, we’re there to connect with our clients, celebrate with them, and make them feel seen. We’re a husband-and-wife team who genuinely cares, and we bring that family-first, heart-led energy into everything we do. People always tell us how comfortable they felt with us, like they were just hanging out with friends who happen to have cameras.

We balance fun and professionalism, making sure our clients can relax and be themselves while trusting that we’ll capture all the moments that matter…. beautifully and authentically. And because we’re family-owned, we understand how important these memories are. We pour our hearts into every wedding, every event, every session, & every gallery we deliver.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Jacksonville is that it feels like the best of both world, a big, vibrant city with beaches, amazing food, and endless photo-worthy backdrops, but with that small-town vibe where you literally run into friends (or friends of friends) everywhere you go. It really is true that “everyone knows everyone,” and I wouldn’t trade that sense of community for anything!

What I like least? The driving. With a service area this big, I’m often zipping from one end of JAX to the other for weddings and events, and I’m definitely not a fan of sitting in traffic. If only I could teleport my camera gear from Riverside to the Beaches in a snap, life would be perfect!
