Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Wintons Jr.
Hi Bobby , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the small town of Apalachicola , Florida located in the panhandle. I come from a church background like a ton of other musicians & producers. My mom was our churches main drummer & my dad ran the sound board & this is also how they met each other. I started off playing the drums probably around 3 or 4 years old and then switched to the piano as my main instrument by the age of 13. When I got into high school I was somewhat into sports as well as venturing into the realm of being a young professional musician. I went to Alabama State University after high school where I played football but also made some very meaningful connections that have helped catapult my career even today. After college I moved back to Jacksonville & have been doing music full time which consist of studio work such as engineering, writing & producing records for various artists. As a musician I also get to play concerts, arrange live performances & also perform original music with some of the artist that I produce for.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In my opinion, pursuing a career in music is the ultimate test of personal accountability. With music, you only get out what you put in. Practice, learning music, retaining music & being prepared is no easy task. It takes true dedication & will power. I can also credit my parents & family for supporting me non-stop once they seen I had an interest in music. One of the most important ideas that has kept me focused on the ending goal is that in order to be great, it takes time. Anytime there is a challenge in your journey in music, that is the exact moment where you’re getting better & leveling up. The more you challenge yourself the better you become.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To be very frank, I love everything about music. I do my best not to have any limitations when working with artist. I was interested in music & production when I was very young & I’ve been cultivating that ever since. I think people like working with me because my main goal is to see their musical vision come to life through truly understanding what they’re feeling, & figuring out what that sounds like. The most notable songs I’ve worked on so far are (“Loner” by Real Boston Richey), (“Dark Days” by GMK ft. Future), (“16Choppa” by Skilli Beng ft Nardo Wick), (“Dark Place” by Bobby Fishscale) & (“Baptism” by Sada Baby). I think I’m most proud of trusting my sound & ability as a musician & figuring out what works best for me, not just doing what’s popular or trendy. Although I love collaborating with other musicians & producers, I feel I really succeed when I’m locked in the studio trying new sounds & venturing into new spaces sonically & seeing what I can find without any distractions. That’s when things really get surreal to me from a musical standpoint.
How do you think about luck?
I personally believe that luck is just a result of whatever energy you put out in the world. In my life God plays a major role in everything I do. He has placed favor over my life & has put me in tons of situation & opportunities that have changed my career for the better. There are some things you can work for, but then there are moments where it’s just your time & things just work in your best interest just because of who you are. I am living witness of that.
