Conversations with Ashley Stafford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Stafford.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business journey at age 23. A mentor saw something in me that I was unaware of. She said to me she could see me running a salon and can see me being very successful at it: I then started looking into it and venturing out to get all my ducks in a row. Looking for locations and inventory and then I finally decided to make roots in the river city area. This area was just beginning to blow up. The river city mall was in the process of being built and the community was growing by leaps and bounds.

So we opened up in March of 2008. We have moved once since then. We are growing and take on new clients monthly have three employees. One stylist Carly, one social media manager, and one assistant. When I started at 23, it was tough being young and learning how to hire and fire and delegate. I learned a lot quickly. My father plays a big role in my life and helps me with my business. He is an entrepreneur as well. He told me at the beginning you will grow up fast and learn a lot in a short period of time. Always look at every situation with a solution. You will have problems but as a business owner, we are problem solvers.

I have been open 14 years and counting and I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey. I feel great about where my business is headed and I am proud to serve my community and the military families for all their hair needs. I am so excited to meet new people moving into our area. So, I can honestly say I am blessed to still be in business and thriving through the recession, Covid shutdowns, And other stumbling blocks along the way. Anything worth having is hard work!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hey, every road to success is always under construction. Yes, there have been times that it’s been hard. The recession in 2008-2009 is when I first opened that was a rough time. Just opened and heard stories from clients losing their jobs after 20 years.

Then Covid really put a damper on things knowing we had to shut down to get the virus under control but this is how I feed my family so that was hard to close and not know when you will be able to reopen. Other things that come with building a business always learning and staying on top of the trends so it can be tough.

I pushed through and dedicated a lot of time to continuing education and perfecting my craft.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
