Conversations with Amy & Amy Rorvall & Nichols

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy & Amy Rorvall & Nichols.

Hi Amy & Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a Jacksonville based business that is ran by two women! We both worked at Cruisers Grill back in 2016 and became fast friends sharing loaded cheese fries and ranch. As the years went on we would meet up for dinner and we were both working office jobs full time at this point. Then one night at Seven Bridges, the idea of Candleleaf was born! Amy suggested we start trying to make candles and see where it goes. We both wanted to make a clean product that our friends, family and others could be happy and feel good about bringing into their homes. It was a trial and error process making candles on Amy’s stove top in her home in San Marco. In 2019 we were able to start selling our candles live at our very first market Vagabond Flea! Fast forward 7 years we have our very own studio where we make candles twice a week. Still working full time jobs we truly share a love for making toxin free products. We now sell linen sprays, reed diffusers, scents pouches and candles galore. Owning a small business with your best friend makes showing up to markets and making product late hours so much easier. We are also so thankful to have the Riverside Arts Market and community love us so much! We wouldn’t be anywhere without them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning we had to test a lot of different fragrances, wick sizes, what jars we wanted and figure out our logo. We would say that was the hardest part. We were coming out of pocket with our own money for this business. It was really hard work! A lot of friends and family would help us at markets, production nights and basically whatever we needed to make Candleleaf work. Overtime we learned what labels worked best on our candles and just how to make production nights smoother and more efficient. I think having such a great support system behind us truly made the hard and overwhelming times feel okay.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
To us what matters the most is truly having a product that we can feel good about recommending an affordable product for people to buy! Not only are our products toxin-free but they are handmade by us and us only. When you support small, you support your community and together that helps us all.
