Conversations with Aalana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aalana .

Hi Aalana; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been writing poems since elementary school. By the time I was a junior in high school, I had begun freestyling to myself. I decided to record my first song, “Hold My Cup,” during my senior year. After releasing my first EP, “A Test Subject,” I started performing all over Jacksonville while running my business, Selective Snacks, marketing with the Link Up Paradise team, and working on my second EP, “Waiting Words,” behind the scenes. I’ve accumulated over 10,000 plays across Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud with the Top 5 streaming countries, including Japan, Nigeria, Canada, and Australia.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The regulations that came with Covid were a major setback because the allowed capacity at venues decreased, and I couldn’t perform on stages anymore. Engaging with my audience is what I love most about being an artist, so this wasn’t the best news for me when the pandemic started. However, I didn’t let that stop me from creating. Because of this obstacle, I was motivated to finish my album and create more music videos, so I’ll have art to share with my supporters. After I dropped a music video for an unreleased song, “Okay Cool,” SayCheeseTV posted a clip that received over 50,000 views.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the best at what I do because everything I do, have done, and will accomplish—is meant to be done by me. My originality and authenticity set me apart. I’m known for being myself even when I don’t want to be, especially in a world full of trends and plagiarists. And the very thing I do is tell MY story, thoughts, and feelings through music. My inner child has always dreamed of this, so I will continue to make her and my future self proud.

What are your plans for the future?
My upcoming album, “My Arriving,” will be released soon. It’s full of soulfully melodic yet vividly raunchy lyrics with carefully handpicked instrumentals. This album will be an experience for a Hip-Hop, Jazz, and R&B listener. Also, my team at Link Up Paradise is in the works of having our first set of commercial properties.
