Community Highlights: Meet Wilfred Torres of Wegotchu Enterprises NPO Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wilfred Torres.

Hi Wilfred, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wilfred Torres, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, am the founder of Wegotchu Enterprises NPO, Inc., a community-based organization established in 2016 to provide essential resources to communities who are in need. My brand (Wegotchu) and the way of thinking have brought signature annual events and innovative programs to life, including the Wegotchu Salud Wellness Program, which focuses on public health and wellness for underserved communities. Actively engaged in the Jacksonville area, I, Wilfred Torres, collaborate with local partners, organize resource drives along with community events, and champion initiatives that uplift families and foster community resilience. 2025, marked a decade of community development and organizing by acknowledging the 10th annual “Wegotchu Back to School Celebration” event—a milestone that reflects our enduring commitment to empowering local youth and families. Some of my achievements include: AmeriCorps service member/ Alumni, University of North Florida Graduate, with local and national recognition for community impact. I, Wilfred Torres, will continue to bridge gaps in the efforts to make the world a better place.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles along the way include: self-doubt, hearing a lot of “no” you can’t do it. Financial burden of having to self-finance an operation or project with no local, state, or national funding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
#Wegotchu is psychology for the world to become a better place. We promote the qualities of education, success, gratitude, respect, drive, and motivation. #Wegotchu is a word used by you or the opposition to represent the matching capabilities used for success.

1. A brand that provides resources where resources are not available.

2. A brand that inspires new ideas.

3. A brand that introduces the “past” to the “new era”, and the “new era” to the “past” by acknowledging the latest and greatest, with reflection of key moments of important figures in history.

4. A brand the connects brands.

5. A brand that takes action for the less fortunate, by providing and promoting wisdom through the power of giving with a true sense of gratitude.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking risks in business matters because growth never comes from staying in the comfort zone. Smart risk‑taking along with strategic planning is often the difference between organizations that stagnate and those that become industry leaders. For someone like me—who’s constantly navigating partnerships, funding, compliance, and community impact—understanding the strategic value of risk is especially powerful.
