Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarah Wellington.
Hi Tarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
College was the time when I really started to explore my interest in photography before I mostly used my point-and-shoot camera to capture moments and to photograph reference material for my drawing projects. My preferred mediums for portrait drawing projects are charcoal, graphite, and pastels.
While completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a concentration in Art History I studied the history of photography and was inspired by early pioneer photographers such as Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, and Gordon Parks. Through their work, I saw just how expressive and meaningful photography can be and the value it holds. I then proceeded to take a film photography class and learned how to process my own black and white film.
The process of shooting and developing black and white film really drew me in because it way to sketch a portrait with light. After college, I decided to pursue photography as a way to connect and create portraits of interesting individuals. Today, I am a portrait and commercial photographer based in St. Augustine, Florida.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been some challenges along the way.
Initially, when you decide to be a sole photographer and make this your full-time job you don’t completely realize that you have been a business person in addition to being a photographer. I didn’t start out as a business-minded person but the internet is abundant with resources.
Over the years, I have to learn learned business and marketing skills and feel confident in my growth in managing a business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Portrait and Commercial Photographer.
I photograph Families, Weddings, Portraits, Seniors, Branding, Headshots, and commercial interiors.
I am known for my headshot/Portraits.
