Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanekia Bing.
Hi Shanekia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started long before ALIRRA officially became a brand. I originally built my foundation through hairstyling and working closely with clients, which gave me firsthand insight into the everyday struggles people were having with their hair and scalp. Over time, I realized many people weren’t just lacking products they were lacking structure, consistency, and education around healthy hair care.
A major part of my inspiration also came from my daughters. They both had very different hair textures and needs, which taught me early on that healthy hair is not a “one size fits all” experience. I spent years learning how different textures respond to moisture, products, routines, and scalp care. That personal experience deepened my understanding of hair beyond styling alone.
My oldest daughter’s health journey impacted me deeply and became one of the biggest motivations behind how I approached haircare. She has Sickle Cell Anemia SS, and during pain crises she often experienced extreme dryness, fragility, and changes in her hair due to both her condition and the high doses of pain medication required during hospital stays. Watching her go through that made me more intentional about understanding moisture retention, scalp balance, softness, and gentle hair management.
Those experiences shifted my perspective completely. I stopped looking at haircare as just appearance-based and started viewing it as something connected to comfort, confidence, consistency, and overall care. I became deeply interested in understanding how routines, scalp health, hydration, product layering, and retention all worked together. That curiosity eventually evolved into developing products and building a system-based approach to haircare.
Like many entrepreneurs, my path was not perfectly linear. There were seasons of growth, rebuilding, setbacks, and learning experiences that forced me to adapt quickly and wear multiple hats. During some of the most difficult moments, I leaned heavily into creativity, self-education, and developing new skills. I taught myself more about branding, product development, visual direction, marketing, content creation, and customer experience because I knew I wanted to build something intentional and long-term.
One of the biggest things that carried me through every challenge was my relationship with GOD. There were moments where things felt uncertain, overwhelming, and difficult to understand, but my faith kept me grounded. It gave me the strength to keep rebuilding, keep learning, and keep believing in the vision even during seasons where it felt like everything was being tested. I truly believe many of the setbacks were preparing me for a greater level of purpose, discipline, and growth, both personally and professionally.
What makes the journey meaningful to me is that ALIRRA was not created overnight. It evolved through real experiences, persistence, motherhood, faith, and a willingness to keep going even during uncertain seasons. Many of the ideas that now define the brand including the focus on scalp-to-strand care, lightweight moisture, retention-focused routines, and educational storytelling were shaped through both personal and professional experiences.
Today, ALIRRA continues to grow as a modern haircare brand centered around structure, self-care, innovation, and helping people feel more confident and in control of their hair. I’m especially proud that the brand is becoming known not just for products, but for creating conversations around consistency, healthy routines, and redefining how people think about haircare overall.
I still see this as the beginning. Every challenge, lesson, and experience along the way has helped shape the vision for where ALIRRA is headed next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I believe a lot of growth comes from the difficult seasons. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced moments where I had to rebuild, pivot, and rethink how I wanted to operate both personally and professionally.
One of the biggest challenges was navigating unexpected business setbacks while still trying to grow and protect the vision I had for the brand. There were moments where I had to pause, restructure, and learn new skills in areas I never expected from branding and product development to content creation, marketing, operations, and business strategy.
At one point, I realized I could either allow those challenges to stop me or use them to create something stronger and more intentional. That season pushed me to think differently about what I wanted ALIRRA to represent. Instead of simply creating products, I became more focused on building systems, education, customer experience, and long-term brand identity.
Another challenge has been learning how to grow quietly and protect the vision while it’s still developing. Entrepreneurship teaches you very quickly that not everyone will understand your vision in the early stages, and sometimes growth requires discipline, patience, and isolation before expansion.
Looking back, I’m actually grateful for many of the obstacles because they forced me to mature as both a founder and a person. They helped shape the direction of ALIRRA into a brand that feels more intentional, resilient, and purpose-driven.
The journey has taught me that setbacks do not always mean failure sometimes they are preparation for a larger vision.
We’ve been impressed with ALIRRA Hair Care LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ALIRRA Hair Care is a modern, system-based haircare brand focused on helping people better understand and manage their scalp and hair through consistency, structure, and intentional routines. We specialize in scalp-to-strand care with products designed to work together as part of a complete regimen rather than as random standalone products.
What sets ALIRRA apart is our focus on solving the everyday frustrations many people experience with their hair dryness that quickly returns, buildup, scalp imbalance, breakage, and inconsistent results. Instead of simply selling products, we focus on creating systems that support moisture retention, scalp balance, softness, manageability, and long-term hair health.
Our products are intentionally designed to feel lightweight while still delivering performance. One of our signature products, ALIRRA Milkshake™, is an all-in-one leave-in conditioner known for helping soften, detangle, moisturize, and improve manageability without leaving hair feeling heavy or coated. We’ve built the brand around the idea that healthy hair should still have movement, softness, and flexibility.
We are also very education-driven. A major part of the brand is helping customers understand how their routines, product layering, and scalp environment impact the way their hair behaves. We want people to feel empowered and confident instead of overwhelmed or confused by haircare.
What I’m most proud of brand wise is that ALIRRA was built through resilience, creativity, and vision. The brand evolved through personal challenges and rebuilding seasons, but instead of giving up, I used those experiences to think differently about haircare, branding, and customer experience. Every product, campaign, and concept has been intentional.
I want readers to know that ALIRRA is more than a beauty brand it’s a growing movement centered around structure, self-care, confidence, and redefining how people approach healthy hair. We are building a brand experience that combines luxury aesthetics, education, innovation, and real-world hair solutions in a way that feels modern, relatable, and empowering.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One of the biggest sources of strength and guidance in my life has been my faith. Reading the Bible has helped me stay grounded, focused, and mentally strong through both personal and professional challenges. It has taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, wisdom, and trusting the process even during uncertain seasons.
A book that also impacted me deeply is *Don’t Let the Enemy Have a Seat at Your Table* by Louie Giglio. The message about protecting your mind, guarding your peace, and not allowing negativity or fear to control your thoughts really resonated with me, especially as an entrepreneur navigating pressure and rebuilding seasons.
Music is also a major part of how I stay encouraged and centered. Artists like Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Maverick City Music have been a huge source of motivation, peace, and inspiration for me. Their music has helped me through difficult moments and reminds me to stay connected to purpose, faith, and gratitude.
Outside of that, I spend a lot of time researching branding, product development, visual storytelling, and marketing because I genuinely enjoy learning and evolving creatively. I believe growth comes from staying open to learning in every season of life.
