Hi Raphnee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My healthcare career began as a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist. I was deeply involved in patient care, working hands-on with patients undergoing cardiac procedures. It was gratifying, but when my son and I moved to Jacksonville, I needed to find a role that offered more stability and flexibility than the clinical side of healthcare could provide. This transition led me to the field of health information management. I quickly realized that I could still significantly impact patient care, albeit from a different angle. I dove into the complexities of healthcare revenue cycle management, learning how crucial it was to streamline these processes to ensure that healthcare providers could focus more on their patients and less on administrative burdens. With a passion for both people and efficiency, I founded Reliant Management, a healthcare revenue cycle management company. Our mission is not just a statement but a driving force. We aim to reclaim patient care by optimizing the revenue cycle processes. By taking on the intricate and often cumbersome financial and administrative tasks, we allow healthcare providers to dedicate more time and resources to their patients. Our core passion for people and dedication to improving patient care through effective management remains steadfast as we grow. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful daily for the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business, especially in the healthcare industry, is rarely smooth, and my journey has been no exception. Transitioning from a clinical role to managing a business came with a steep learning curve.

One of the initial challenges was understanding the intricacies of healthcare revenue cycle management from a business perspective. While I had a solid grasp of the clinical side, navigating the administrative, financial, and regulatory aspects required a different skill set. This meant I had to invest a lot of time in learning and, sometimes, making mistakes and learning from them.

Another area for improvement is building a trustworthy and competent team. Healthcare revenue cycle management is a complex field that demands precision and a deep understanding of healthcare processes. Finding individuals with the right skills and sharing my passion for improving patient care is challenging.

Financial stability is also a significant hurdle. Like many new entrepreneurs, securing funding and managing cash flow are constant concerns. The healthcare industry has financial challenges, and ensuring we have the resources to sustain and grow the business requires careful planning and sometimes tough decisions.

Additionally, balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with personal life took a lot of work. Raising my son while trying to establish a business meant there were days when the pressure felt overwhelming. Sometimes, I questioned if I had taken on too much, but my passion for people and commitment to improving patient care kept me going. Despite these struggles, each challenge teaches me valuable lessons and helps shape the resilient and adaptive business we have today. These experiences make success all the more rewarding.

My favorite childhood memory is Christmas Eve, when our family gathered for a game night. We would play various board games, card games, and charades, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. The excitement built up throughout the evening, and as midnight approached, we would pause the games and gather around the Christmas tree. With everyone eagerly anticipating, we opened our gifts together at midnight. The joy and surprise on everyone’s faces, the shared laughter, and the sense of togetherness made these nights unforgettable. A magical tradition brought our family closer and filled our hearts with holiday cheer.
