Randina Hoyt

Hi Randina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I gave birth to my daughter in 2013. I knew that I wanted to breastfeed my daughter. I had read the books, done my research, and believed that I knew what I needed to know to have a successful breastfeeding journey. Or at least I had thought. Like so many other women, this was not the case. Breastfeeding was surprisingly difficult and extremely painful. This is where my breastfeeding journey began. I struggled with painful feeding low milk supply; my daughter was slow to gain, I had to supplement with formula and donor breastmilk, and I used lactation aids to help feed my daughter and to help increase my milk supply. Despite my efforts, the entire first year of her life, I could not produce the amount of milk she required. 4 different women were so gracious to donate close to 2500 ounces of breastmilk to feed my daughter. After that first year, she received most of her nutrition from solid foods, so the supply I had was sufficient for her. I went on to breastfeed her for 2 1/2 years. I developed a passion for helping and educating other women during my breastfeeding journey. I became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) through The Healthy Children Project in 2014. This certification is an introductory training course excellent for general lactation information. I began volunteering for Breastfeeding Coalitions and served as the President of the Pikes Peak Breastfeeding Coalition for 2 years while I was studying to receive my Bachelor of Science in Maternal Child Health and Human Lactation through Union Institute & University. I graduated in 2019. I sat for the International Board Certified Lactation Exam in 2020 to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the highest credential you can obtain as a Lactation Consultant. This certification allows me to work in any country around the world. I serve Jacksonville and surrounding areas by doing in-home visits for mothers who need breastfeeding help or education through my private practice, Blessedful Breastfeeding, LLC.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
This journey has been a challenging one. I am a single mother of a 10-year-old daughter. We sold our home and relocated from Colorado to Jacksonville in August of 2021 for a job opportunity that did not work out as I would have hoped because few positions are available for Lactation Consultants. A great many of us open our private practices. With a massive leap of faith in God, I started my private practice in January of 2022, and being new to the area, I didn’t know anyone and was unfamiliar. As I started to see clients, I began to get to know some of the providers in the city: pediatricians, chiropractors, speech-language pathologists, etc. My business relies on provider referrals.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Blessedful Breastfeeding, LLC?
I am a home-visiting Lactation Consultant. Clients can make an appointment with me and do not need to leave their homes. This can be very beneficial and valuable to mothers with newborns so they do not need to leave their home with an infant for another appointment after giving birth. In addition, mothers feel more comfortable because they are in their environment. My business is also a Christian-based business, and many of my families have specifically sought me out because of my business name, the cross on my logo, and the bible scriptures on my website. I am most recognized for my signature purple hair. I am proud to be known and recognized as the Lactation Consultant with purple hair and as a Christ-centered business.

What does success mean to you?
Success is measured not only by my business’s prosperity but also by my positive impact on families by promoting health and nurturing bonding. Guided by my Christian values, success also entails upholding moral principles in my professional practice. Success is achieved by fostering a nurturing atmosphere where faith, values, and expert lactation support come together to ensure the well-being of mothers and infants, regardless of how their breastfeeding journey may look.
