Community Highlights: Meet Monica Craig of Integrative Direct Primary Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Craig.

Hi Monica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out my medical profession as a CNA in 1996. My CNA job was in a home health position, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I left the medical field for a few years to pursue various secretarial roles, during this time I got married and had my first child. It was after having my daughter that I realized I could no longer work in dead end-minimum wage positions. I applied to Santa Fe College for their LPN program that would begin in 2003 and end in 2004, I was accepted and took on this challenge of wife, mother, and student. It was one of the most challenging things I had ever done in my life which made the victory of completing the course and the NCLEX exam all the sweeter. My first nursing job was in a skilled nursing facility in Cross City, FL. Shortly after my husband and I relocated to Crawfordville, FL and I transferred into an assisted living facility nursing role. In 2008 I completed my RN degree and passed the RN NCLEX in January of 2009. Life really happened between 2009 and 2012, I got divorced, moved back to my hometown and started over. I met my now husband and love of my life towards the end of 2012, it was him who asked why I had not gotten my BSN degree, at his persuasive nudging’s I completed my BSN in 2018, and he again encouraged me to take another step and get my MSN, NP. I completed this challenge in 2020 and completed my terminal nursing degree of DNP in 2024. I own a private practice in Lake City, FL. I do primary care services, bioidentical hormone replacement, wound care, trigger point injections, PRP, and weight loss services just to name a few. I have never been more fulfilled in a position as I am in my current position. I find it incredibly rewarding to help others become the best versions of themselves and feel optimal.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles I faced along the way was being a full-time mom, wife, and student a large portion of my life. Divorce and remarrying along the way were challenging as well.

We’ve been impressed with Integrative Direct Primary Care, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I do primary care services, bioidentical hormone replacement, wound care, trigger point injections, PRP, and weight loss services just to name a few. I have never been more fulfilled in a position as I am in my current position. I find it incredibly rewarding to help others become the best versions of themselves and feel optimal. I consider myself to honor western medicine but also appreciate and incorporate lots of functional and integrative approaches as well.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
There is beauty in the ashes. Life can be hard at times but if you have the right people in your life with a positive influence and a powerful faith to keep you anchored it is all worth it.
