Today we’d like to introduce you to Miracle Harper.
Hi Miracle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I became fascinated with birth after becoming pregnant with my son in 2018. As a soon-to-be first-time mom, I went into full research mode and quickly ended up down multiple rabbit holes. The event that sealed the deal for me was watching “The Business of Being Born.” After that, I knew that I wanted to have a doula and was determined that I was going to have a waterbirth. My birthing plan didn’t go as planned, but it was still a successful experience. However, I often reflected on what could have gone differently. And that’s when it hit me! I could have been much more educated and asked more questions. So, whenever a friend or family member told me they were pregnant, I would always ask questions and tell them everything I could to help them in their birthing experience. But it wasn’t until my little cousin suggested that I become a certified doula to seal the deal, if you will. So, I started on my birth work journey officially in September 2020 by signing up for my first doula training. I also want to mention that I have a full-time job as a Product Manager, so attending births as often as possible was a bit difficult. That said, I ended up with my two first births within 72 hours of each other. They were over 12 hours, and they both involved shoulder dystocia and were very traumatic. After those two births, I needed to take a step back and question if I should continue on the doula path. But after a few months, I still wanted to be in the birthing world somehow. So that’s how I ended up becoming a Placenta Specialist. I understood the magic of this miraculous organ as I encapsulated mine, but it was also a way for me to provide service and honor it.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As mentioned in the previous question, traumatic births are what led me to get into placenta work. And now that I’m here, the biggest obstacle is the internet trolls who are entirely against placenta encapsulation. I am working on a placenta education series for social media 🙂
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Miraculous Birthing can support pregnant persons from conception to keepsakes. Right now, I am heavily focused on the keepsake side of the business. I am on a mission to encourage birthing persons to honor their placenta. Even if they don’t want to encapsulate it, there are various other ways to celebrate it instead of ending up as medical waste. I did encapsulate my placenta, but my specialist didn’t offer placenta prints. I would give anything to have a print of my placenta, and that is why prints are my favorite part of the process. They are one of a kind, and they are irreplaceable. Placenta prints and umbilical cord keepsakes are also something that parents can cherish in cases where the baby does not live. One of the other miraculous capabilities that our bodies have is the ability to nourish our babies with our breast milk. Any breastfeeding person knows there is a lot of dedication and hard work. It can be bittersweet when the journey comes to an end. I can serve to turn breastmilk into jewelry as a small memento of something special. Something that sets me apart is my love and passion for being able to create unique keepsakes to honor such miraculous journeys. If you were to watch me making a keepsake, you would be able to see me get in the zone; it is one of my favorite places to be. I am growing herbs and vegetables that will be dehydrated and used for color prints.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that my business isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. I used to try to appeal to everyone, and when that didn’t work, I would become discouraged and frustrated. I now know that I will attract the people who are supposed to find me by showing up only as my authentic self.
