Community Highlights: Meet Kristin Gaspar of Fit with KG

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Gaspar.

Kristin Gaspar

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Hi, I’m Kristin. I’m originally from CT and married to my high-school sweetheart, Marco. We have three children: an almost 6-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl, and a 1-year-old baby boy. I am a former elementary school teacher, but when I had my first son, Luca, I wanted to stay home with him. I have always been into fitness and decided to get my personal training certification. I had a difficult birth with Luca (I was high-risk and struggled with the recovery of postpartum). I also wanted to help mamas with their birthing and postpartum experiences, so I became a 4th Trimester Fitness® instructor. Along with being a personal trainer, I started teaching pregnancy, postpartum, and pelvic floor classes. I fell in love with helping women as they learned to be their own advocates during pregnancy and being a sounding board for them during the 4th trimester. Over the last six years, I decided to get my nutrition certification through Precision Nutrition, CrossFit Level 1 certificate, and became a Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Coach. I now do a lot of one-on-one training and consistently teach pregnancy and postpartum classes for women, whether first-time mamas or seasoned moms who want to strengthen their pelvic floors and cores. I’m grateful I still get to do what I love: helping women with their postpartum journey, coaching in my gym, and teaching my children.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting to where I am now has been a challenge. I love helping women, especially moms, but my biggest obstacle is getting my name out there. I am naturally uncomfortable with promoting my business and talking about myself. This means I have to stretch outside my comfort zone to market my business to women I know can benefit from my knowledge and training. Being a personal trainer, I have high expectations for my recovery and body, and although I know what to do, having three children has changed my body and my athletic performance a bit. I have learned to give myself grace, as I always tell the women I work with, too (but it’s always harder taking your own advice).

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own Fit with KG, LLC. I’m a certified personal trainer through ACE. I have a few other certifications, including 4th Trimester Fitness® Method Instructor, Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Coach through Brianna Battles, Precision Nutrition Coach, and my CrossFit L1. I offer one-on-one personal training and small-group fitness classes. I also offer virtual training sessions and customized programs to meet your goals. I consistently teach a Postpartum Recovery® Fitness class every 8-10 weeks. The class is for 6 weeks, for a little over an hour. It’s a wonderful class for new and seasoned mamas to take. We slowly progress through exercises to help build back your pelvic floor and core after pregnancy.

We discuss motherhood topics such as diastasis recti, incontinence, prolapse, etc. I also offer 2 clinics, a Birth Ball Basics™ clinic, and a Pelvic Floor Core & More™. The Birth Ball class is wonderful for pregnant mamas to learn different birth positions, how to use a birth ball during pregnancy and birth, and different comfort measures while giving birth. This class can be taken if you plan to give birth naturally or with an epidural. The Pelvic Floor, Core & More™ class is good if you’ve had a baby a few years back, are experiencing some leaking, and feel your core might be weak. It’s a 3-hour class, and we go through the anatomy of our pelvic floor and core while progressing through exercises that can help strengthen and relax your pelvic floor. I love what I do and always aim to be a safe place for mamas. I know everyone doesn’t always have friends or family they feel comfortable talking to about leaking while they laugh or having painful sex, and I want women to know that I am there for them. I have gone through 3 different pregnancies and postpartum recoveries, and they were each so different. I try to create a community through my classes, especially the Postpartum Recovery® class. We have moms who come for the 6 weeks in similar life stages, and everyone leaves as friends. Many mamas that take my class or do personal training with me become extended family; they text me various questions if they have a concern, and we get together to catch up for coffee or text silly memes to each other. I love what I do and want to help moms feel confident in their pregnancies and postpartum journeys. I’m just blessed I get to be a part of it all.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as a feeling; success is happiness while doing something you love. It’s doing what you are passionate about and feeling like you are helping someone. I have accomplished a lot in the short time of my career change. I am contributing to others’ lives through my fitness coaching, perinatal classes, and my love and support for them.
