Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaunecia McCoy.
Kaunecia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had hustle. I use to sell my last birthday cupcakes as a kid and anything else I could find. I always wanted to have a business. I started the business Take The Sweet Route when I got my heart broken and I needed a way to distract myself. It use to be called Sugary Sweets Street and I would sell Oreo balls. It took off pretty fast. But I went back to college and didn’t really have time to do it anymore. Fast forward to now, I rebranded and decided to add cheesecake. I now have my cheesecake in the restaurant Wings on the Run in Jacksonville an I sell them at the farmers markets. I am currently looking for more stores to put them in as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My main goal is to find stores to put them in and it’s not the easiest to find. Making a lot of them and people complaining about the prices when they have no idea how much time and money you put into them is also a challenge for me. That’s because I want people to be happy and sometimes I don’t want to stand on the prices that I actually want.
As you know, we’re big fans of Take The Sweet Route. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I make Oreo bites and cheesecakes of many flavors. What sets me apart is the Oreo bites. A lot of people don’t know what they are so some are not selling it. People’s eyes light up when I explain to them what they are. And when they try them they want more. I’m looking for more stores to put my desserts in that doesn’t have any. And I plan to create more flavors. I can do catering orders as well.
How do you think about happiness?
My son is my happiness. I love him so much he is four years old and the light of my world. God has been getting me through in every way possible. If it weren’t for him I don’t know if this would even be an opportunity.
