Hi Javonn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Javonn Wright, and I was born and raised in Miami, FL. In 1998 I graduated high school and met Carey, my now husband, on America Online in a chatroom for 18-21-year-olds. 1999 I relocated to Jacksonville, FL, and that was when life began. We both had jobs, got an apartment and a dog. Life was great, but we wanted more, so we took a gamble and headed to Atlanta, Georgia: Atlanta and great restaurants, parks, and most of all, cool food truck parks. One particular cart at all the food truck parks sold the best pops we’d ever tasted, King of Pops. After 14 years in Atlanta, the itch grew again for more, so it was California or New York. Guess where we landed, the Big Apple. We experienced COVID-19 in NYC. After five years in NYC, we wanted closer to the beach. We landed in Ponte Vedra, FL September of 2022, which is one of the greatest moves to date. Once we got here, I wanted to own a business I could call my own. Carey and I still work 9-5 amazing jobs, but I still wanted something we could call our own and expand on in the future. That’s when it hit me. I had forgotten how hot and humid it gets in Florida. I asked Carey what about the popsicles we used to buy in Atlanta. We would get pops each time we saw the cart out; no matter how long the line was or if they were out of the flavor I wanted, this was it? This would be great here in Florida. A few months later, we became King of Pops in Ponte Vedra. We operate from a mobile cart and do events small and large, catering or retail, providing traditional (strawberry lemonade, blueberry, to foodie (Thai iced tea, blackberry ginger lemonade) to adventurous (mango chili lime). Flavor options are for everyone, vegan gluten and dairy-free. We even have pup pops for our furry friends.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been fantastic! We have met and made so many people happy, from toddlers to those in their golden years. The purpose of the business is to create unexpected moments of happiness (UMOHS) daily. We could not have selected a better route. Although we are outside and the heat is unbearable many times, when we hand that pop over and those eyes open, and the smile goes from ear to ear, it’s worth it. Upon entering the franchise, I thought we would have to seek out a lot of business and referrals, but it’s been the total opposite. Our community has shown so much support, and for that, we are grateful.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are franchisees located in Ponte Vedra, FL. We offer the most yummy pops, and the cool thing is there’s a pop for everyone keeping in mind dietary needs (vegan, gluten, and dairy-free options). Our top four pops are strawberry lemonade, mango tangerine, blueberry lemonade, and cookies n’ cream. When doing inventory, it’s like those four perform magic; they disappear! We offer seasonal pops; we celebrated July 4th with the Patriot Pop for the summer, a lemonade base with actual blueberries and raspberries inside.
What sets us apart is us. We are people and enjoy the conversations at the cart. Now let’s talk about the pops. Our flavors can’t be matched. Our pops never turn into ice after a few licks, and the flavor last until the last bite because we use natural fruit and ingredients. Our wrappers contain ingredients so that you know what you are eating. We have a pop for those who are health conscious to those with illnesses that do not allow for high caloric or sugar intake. The inclusiveness sets us apart. Lastly, you can also have a pop with your furry family, leaving no one out.
I am proud to be a part of a brand that cares about people’s happiness just as much as I do. Every day I go out with my cart, I make many people happy when they may not have had the best day. Seeing our cart and taking that first bite erases that day’s struggle, even if it’s temporarily. That’s what I’m proud of, creating unexpected moments of happiness. We do events throughout Metro Jacksonville. Our services include catering, community events, weddings, parties, farmers’ markets, night markets, and food truck nights in communities. Summer pool parties have been enjoyable.
What makes you happy?
Seeing my family, friends, and people happy. When they are happy, I am so glad. My purpose in life is to ensure happiness is all around me. It makes life so much easier. Don’t get me wrong, struggles come, but they quickly go, and I don’t dwell or let it get the best of me.
