Hi Jacklyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in upstate New York, where my home life was marked by instability. My father struggled with alcoholism and mental health, while my mother battled gambling addiction and dishonesty. This environment created a childhood filled with absence, chaos, shame, and emotional neglect. My siblings turned to alcohol, drugs, and pills to cope, and I became the caretaker, the fixer, striving to hold everything together even as a child.
At sixteen, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life: I left home. That moment was a turning point; I decided I would not repeat the same cycles. The path to independence was challenging, but it also forged my strength. For many years, I struggled with boundaries, feeling responsible for everyone else’s pain and believing my worth was measured by how much I gave and fixed. Over time, I learned that loving others does not mean losing myself—a realization that changed everything. It allowed me to rebuild, discover my true self, and live with purpose instead of guilt.
My journey through divorce further deepened my understanding of what it feels like to face overwhelming challenges, not just emotionally but legally. This experience inspired me to create Moxie Legal Support. Moxie is more than just legal documents; it’s about empowerment—restoring confidence and dignity for those navigating the legal system alone. Having felt unheard myself, I wanted to build a resource that ensures others never experience that feeling.
Outside of my work, I find peace and healing in my passions: art, wildlife rescue, and riding motorcycles with my husband. My husband is my light, and my boys are my heart; they keep me grounded. Today, success for me isn’t about money or recognition. It’s about impact—helping people stand tall, find their voice, and believe they can rise, no matter what they’ve been through. I began as a young girl who felt unseen and unheard, and I became a woman who helps others find their strength and their voice. That is my “why”; that is my Moxie.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t believe any path in life is truly smooth. The challenges we encounter are what push us to problem-solve, think quickly, and develop patience. My most significant struggles have been personal rather than professional, including breaking family cycles, learning to set boundaries, building a business from the ground up, balancing work and personal life, and transforming pain into purpose.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned that not everyone celebrates your success and that there’s always a valuable lesson to be gained. Failure, regardless of who you are, is an integral part of success. It teaches you to persevere, to recognize your strengths and weaknesses, to keep applying yourself, to keep moving forward, to keep learning, and to keep striving to be your best self—even on difficult days, even when you feel you’re not at your best, and even when others may not genuinely support you.
Failure provides lessons that success alone cannot, ultimately revealing the extent of your potential if you simply keep going.
