Community Highlights: Meet Fiona Mullen of Fiona Mullen Photography LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Mullen.

Hi Fiona, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A native of the east coast, Fiona Mullen has a love for the blistery winters of the Northeast, the warmth of the south in Florida, and the tropics of Hawaii. She sees life from a fresh perspective – from behind the lens and completely immersed in the ocean. Wintertime on the Northeast coastline is where her photographer eye was born. The blistery nor’easters and snowstorms never draw crowds to the beach, but for Fiona, the waves, light and composition are perfect. She peels on her five millimeter wetsuit, booties and gloves, walks across the snow covered sand dunes and swims out through the near freezing waves with her camera in hand.

For over ten years, she has been photographing and publishing these scenes. She has accrued a number of international awards and is recognized across the the surf world for her eye and technical skills. These skills and her hunger to explore have lead her around the world; Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Hawaii, California, British Columbia, the Caribbean, Iceland and beyond. She graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Journalism from Monmouth University.

Fiona now works full time on her wedding photography business. From luxury weddings to sunrise beach elopements, Fiona loves it all. She has been behind the camera for over 10 years now, nailing down her journalistic and timeless style through genuine and candid moments. She photographed her first wedding at the age of 16 in NYC and has since worked with couples and individuals all over the world. Her roots and accomplishments in surf and water photography gives her an eye that is outside your everyday ‘wedding photographer’. Fiona loves to approach weddings in her own unique way for couples looking for something truly authentic to them and their way of life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting as a photographer was pure passion at the beginning. Photographing portraits for friends, families, and photographing surf whenever the waves were good. Finding the confidence and resources to make this my full-time career was not easy. I saved up for all of my camera gear at a young age babysitting, and doing many photo jobs for little money. I remember being so nervous before a wedding day, the pressure of photographing someone’s most important day of their life was real. I have come so far in the confidence of my abilities and knowing my worth and skillset as a solo women owned business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I book weddings all across Northeast Florida, the east coast, and worldwide. My roots in water and surf photography gives me an eye thats different than your everyday ‘wedding photographer’. I regularly booking weddings, engagements, families, brand shoots, small business shoots, corporate events and more.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
