Community Highlights: Meet Emanuel Premate of Premalux Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emanuel Premate.

Hi Emanuel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My creative journey started when I was a junior at UCF after I bought my first camera, a GoPro Hero 5. After setting off on my journey in 2017, it didn’t take long before I upgraded to a mirrorless camera to increase the production value of my work. This enabled me to freelance for several small businesses in the Central Florida area. Two years later, I was offered the opportunity to be the official creative director for the European Basketball Tour. Throughout my travels, I also had work featured by national tourism boards such as Croatia Full of Life and Visit Peru.

I took a brief hiatus from the passion to develop my professional career at GE Healthcare. Through this experience, I refined my business and sales skills to have the confidence to take the leap of faith and start a professional video production and photography business, called Premalux Media.

Before I even had a business plan, website, or any content, I dove back into the passion head first in February 2022. Resigning from my role at GE Healthcare, with nothing more than a camera, a vision, and a burning desire to chase after that dream of creating content of the community, for the community.

Within three months of being in operations, I had completed over eight different shoots. Including Jacksonville’s Women’s Wellness Fest, organized by Karen Wood and MaryBeth Perrone. As well as creating content for Jacksonville’s best healthy food restaurant, Kairos Juices.

I’ve accomplished more than I could’ve imagined and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my community. I’m so excited for what lies ahead on this creative journey!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Far from it. From an early age, my road has been a bumpy, obstacle-filled journey.

My parents were first-generation immigrants from Croatia. Leaving everything behind to escape the Yugoslavian civil war.

By four years old, my parents were divorced, growing up in a broken household. In and out of the courts for custody battles.

By twelve years old, my mom had cancer on four separate occasions. I remember being a kid and supporting her as we didn’t have any family in the states.

At 18 years old, my emotionally and mentally abusive father left me homeless. His final three words to me were “figure it out.” I lost all contact with him and then, at 24 years old, I found out he had passed away from a heart attack.

At 25 years old, I was run over by a car while cycling and a victim of a hit-and-run accident.

I share these setbacks not out of seeking pity or sorrow, but out of a desire to inspire others on their journeys. We all have a story, but it’s through the wounds of our stories that we develop the wisdom and the courage to chase after those dreams.

The struggles I faced motivated me to graduate from UCF at the top of my class. The struggles I faced defined my character and led me to be awarded the leader among leaders award at GE Healthcare. The struggles I faced gave me the confidence to be comfortable in uncomfortable circumstances.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Premalux Media is Jacksonville’s trusted source for empowering health and lifestyle businesses to grow through creative content for their target audience.

Our approach at Premalux Media is to provide a truly exceptional experience from beginning to end. It’s not just a video to us. It’s about bringing our client’s story to life through engaging and targeted visual content.

We have a comprehensive creative process that allows us to understand our client’s vision and create one-of-a-kind content that delivers results.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always the adventurous type. The risk-taker in the friend group. From cliff jumping in Croatia to going skydiving for my 18th birthday. I always lived for the thrill of the adventure. Always seeking to learn, grow and transform through new life experiences.

Ironically enough, I wasn’t very creative as a child. It wasn’t until after coming to peace with the trauma I endured from my childhood that my creativity flourished. I found my peace through practicing yoga and meditation. I’m now a licensed yoga teacher and serve my community as a yoga teacher at Vive Yoga Studio in San Marco and Bold City Yoga in Springfield.
