Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Sheridan.
Hi Edward, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Bread Together with a simple goal: to make real bread the way it’s meant to be made—slowly, naturally fermented, and using organic ingredients as the foundation, not the selling point. What began as a personal obsession with sourdough and fermentation turned into a small but focused operation as people started asking for the bread consistently, then seeking it out at markets.
From the beginning, I was intentional about ingredient quality. Using clean, organic flour and long fermentation has allowed people—especially those who struggle with heavily processed breads—to enjoy something that’s fed humanity for thousands of years. Over time, I leaned deeper into the craft, refining process, sourcing, and consistency, while also focusing on education through markets and classes.
Today, Bread Together has grown through word of mouth, repetition, and showing up week after week, staying committed to quality even when it’s the harder path.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most small food businesses, the biggest challenges have been consistency, scale, and choosing the long game over shortcuts. Naturally fermented bread takes time, patience, and a lot of trial and error, especially when you’re committed to organic ingredients and doing everything by hand.
There were moments early on where growth meant saying no—no to faster methods, no to cheaper inputs, and no to expanding before the process was ready. Balancing production, markets, and teaching while keeping quality high has been demanding, but those challenges ultimately shaped the business into something more focused and resilient.
We’ve been impressed with Bread Together, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bread Together is a small-batch bakery focused on naturally fermented bread made with organic ingredients and traditional methods. Everything is built around long fermentation, simplicity, and ingredient integrity—no additives, no shortcuts, and no unnecessary complexity.
What sets Bread Together apart is that organic isn’t a label or a marketing angle here—it’s the baseline. Using clean flour and extended fermentation has allowed people who struggle with conventional, highly processed breads to enjoy bread again, often for the first time in years. The focus is on flavor, digestibility, and consistency rather than trends or volume.
Beyond the bread itself, the brand is equally rooted in education and community. Markets and classes are an opportunity to slow things down, talk about process, and reconnect people with how food has been made for thousands of years. Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that the business has grown through word of mouth and repeat customers—by showing up consistently and letting the work speak for itself.
For readers, Bread Together represents a return to fundamentals: honest ingredients, patient craft, and food made to nourish rather than impress.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that consistency matters more than momentum. In a craft like bread, there’s no way to rush the process without paying for it later. Learning to trust the process—showing up, repeating the work, and making small, thoughtful improvements over time—has proven far more valuable than chasing quick growth or outside validation.
