Hi Ashanti, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been into and good with hair. Mainly Quickweaves, sew-ins, ponytails, etc. I was the one family called on to do their hair. One time, of many, I did a trending Quickweave style on myself. When it was time to remove it, it damaged a lot of my hair and even left me bald in a very noticeable spot. I was terrified and didn’t know what to do because the bald spot was in the front of my head, aka my edges! From that point in, I began making laser closure wigs and U-apart wigs by hand. I decided to take a class to learn how to make them with a sewing machine; the rest is history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
There’s not much smoothness about being an entrepreneur. I think it’s one of the craziest things someone could do. You have to be all in if you want to be successful, and I’ve learned that. One struggle I’ve had was being consistent. However, once I realized that consistency was one of the keys to finding success, it was among the most challenging yet rewarding. I’ve been able to quit my job and gear my focus on the things that matter most to me.
We’ve been impressed with The Wig Vault, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
