Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Steadman.
Hi Steven, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I always loved spending time outdoors, more specifically I love hiking. I find everything about the activity suitable for my lifestyle. It is a great outlet when I am frustrated, great exercise, and I just simply love being in nature and exploring. When I go for a hike, I always manage to find these beautiful and remote locations, but I always ran into a problem.
My problem is I am not very good at verbally expressing myself. When talking to my friends or family, I can never really convey into words just how beautiful these locations are, so I began to take pictures of everywhere I would like. Pretty soon after I began to realize that all of my close friends and family were captivated with the photos I was sharing with them. This took me by surprise because to this day I have no official training or schooling with photography, but I loved the recognition I was getting so I kept it going.
Come my 22nd birthday my parents gifted me with my very first digital camera and my fascination with taking pictures flourished even more. Before I knew it within the following year I invested in getting my first DSLR camera and wanted to further extend my knowledge and capabilities of operating my gear along with all of the technical aspects of photo editing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Though I love photography it has not always been the easiest field to stick with.
I found that one of the biggest obstacles for me is finding my niche. After all, the most important part of being a photographer is producing quality work that stands out. This raises the question of what the best niche is to stand out? I have learned that the best niche is whatever comes to you naturally.
Whatever theme or style where your creativity strives the most is where you are going to produce your best work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work revolves around Nature and Landscape photography.
While I love nature photography because this is where I can go on my most peaceful hikes. I am most proud of my urban landscape shots. I find much pride in capturing the beauty and the essence of an urban environment.
With urban environments, there is not one particular element that makes the picture because it is every element that makes the picture from the lighting to the people, to the way the people interact with their surroundings or each other that breathes life into capturing a shot.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Within the next 5-10 years, I am hoping to have a successful print shop where I can share my beautiful visuals, not just with my friends and family but everyone around the world from every walk of life.
