Hi Sherila, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a child, writing was my way of exploring creativity. It was my emotional outlet—my way of processing—shifting from the reality of what I saw into a realm I could control. Writing opened doors in my mind, but more importantly, it gave me a place to be honest without outside interference or interruption. Long before I understood “purpose” or “calling,” I understood that putting words on paper helped me breathe.
That relationship with writing never left me. Over time, it evolved from private reflection into a craft—shaped by lived experience, faith, loss, growth, and a deep curiosity about people and the stories they carry. As life unfolded, writing matured with me. It became less about escape and more about understanding—myself, others, and the spaces in between.
Professionally, I found myself working in publishing, editing, and content development, often behind the scenes. I helped writers clarify their voices, strengthen their narratives, and bring meaningful messages into the world with intention and structure. What became increasingly clear during that time was how many people carried powerful stories but felt overwhelmed by the process—unsure how to move from idea to execution or how to share their work without compromising who they were.
That gap eventually led me to build Writer’s Wisdom, a platform designed to support writers both creatively and strategically—bridging storytelling, publishing, and audience connection. It was born out of a desire to make the process feel less intimidating and more aligned, so stories with depth and purpose don’t remain untold.
Becoming an author myself was a natural extension of that journey. Learning to Love Him by Trusting Him grew out of lived experience, reflection, and conversations many women are already having quietly. The book reflects my belief that growth—whether in relationships, creativity, or life—is rarely linear and always deeply personal.
Today, my work spans writing, consulting, teaching, and storytelling across multiple formats. I help others honor their stories while continuing to evolve my own. The through-line has always remained the same: using words with honesty and intention, and creating space for stories that don’t need to be perfect to be powerful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has definitely not been smooth.
There have been plenty of ups and downs—revisions, rewrites, scratch-outs, and full restarts. Many of those moments felt like disappointments or personal letdowns, especially when time, energy, and expectation had already been invested. Progress hasn’t always looked like forward movement; sometimes it looked like circling back, starting over, or sitting with uncertainty longer than I wanted to.
Yet, with every completed project, perspective followed. When the work was finally finished, there was always a sense of relief—often followed by joy and quiet satisfaction. For client projects, seeing their faces light up when their vision came together made the process worth it. For my own work, completion brought a deeper sense of accomplishment—not because it was perfect, but because it was finished with integrity.
Those challenges taught me patience, resilience, and respect for the process. I’ve learned that creative work isn’t linear, and setbacks don’t negate progress—they shape it. Looking back, the revisions and restarts weren’t wasted effort; they were part of refining both the work and the person doing it.

At the core of my work is storytelling with purpose. My work as a writer, editor, consultant, and educator, allows me to give back and pay forward by helping others and organizations shape meaningful messages and bring them into the world by clearly stating their messages and intention. Long before launching Writer’s Wisdom, I built a strong foundation in my work as a book reviewer, publishing assistant, and book editor. Those experiences allowed me to see the industry from multiple angles and understand what truly makes a story resonate.
As a book reviewer through Cece’s Book Reviews, I developed a deep understanding of how readers engage with stories—what draws them in, what feels authentic, and what leaves lasting impressions. Alongside that, my works as a publishing assistant and editor allowed me to discipline my storytelling skills, hone in on structure, revision, positioning, and the realities of bringing each project from concept to completion.
In addition to my professional experience, I spent over ten years as a volunteer writer for my church’s marketing team and magazine, often ghostwriting pieces. That season sharpened my ability to write with sensitivity and discernment, capturing someone else’s voice while communicating clearly and purposefully—sometimes without my name attached to the work.
Through Writer’s Wisdom, I’m known for helping writers navigate both the creative and practical sides of authorship. I specialize in writing development, book editing, self-publishing guidance, and strategic content positioning. Many of the writers I work with come in feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, and leave with clarity, confidence, and a finished body of work that reflects their voice and intent.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me during some of their most vulnerable creative moments. Writing requires honesty, patience, and refinement—both on the page and internally—and I approach that responsibility with care. Seeing a client hold their completed book for the first time, or finally feel seen in their own words, is deeply meaningful.
What sets me apart is the depth of perspective I bring to the process. I understand the emotional side of writing because I’ve lived it, and I understand the industry side because I’ve worked within it. I don’t believe in rushing stories or forcing formulas. I believe in honoring the process, respecting the voice behind the words, and helping writers create work that doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful—just honest and intentional.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that has been most important to my success is discernment.
When working with clients, it’s essential for me to understand their ultimate goal—not just what they want to create, but why they’re creating it and who they’ve identified as their target audience. That clarity shapes every decision in the process and allows the work to stay aligned with their intent rather than becoming scattered or forced.
In my writing process, the principle is the same. I’m deeply focused on clarity, ensuring I know who my audience is and making sure the message is honest, accessible, and meaningful to those it’s meant to serve. I’m intentional about honoring what’s been entrusted to me and delivering it thoughtfully, without distortion or unnecessary noise.
That combination of discernment and clarity—listening carefully, staying aligned, and communicating with purpose—guides my work and has been central to everything I’ve built.
