Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarajane Maples.
Hi Sarajane, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for all things beauty started 15 years ago behind a makeup counter. Working for brands such as Bare Essentials, Estee Lauder, and Bobbi Brown, to name a few, the more enamored I became.
It was this first spark that inspired me to take my passion to the next level and enroll at the Aveda Institute in Jacksonville, Florida. It was there where I met my mentors and my true love for styling was cultivated.
Graduating in 2013, I began immediately working with brides. Over the next few years my passion for hair sculpting continued to burn.
In 2017, I was recognized for my work and named Modern Salon’s top 100 game changers and was nominated for Behind the Chair one shot for best braid of the year.
In 2018, I was awarded 1st place in Pravana’s “Show us your Vivids” competition and was NAHA’s (North American Hairstyling Awards)“Styling and Finishing” winner in 2019.
Today, I am proud to now not only style hair but to educate as well. Working independently with both AIIR and Pulp Riot to educate the next generation of hair dressers with the same passion for beauty I still possess from the early days at the make up counter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, taking the unconventional path is never easy but it’s always worth it!

I’m a hairstylist with a focus on both everyday styling and session work. What I’m most proud of is building a brand that reflects who I truly am. I believe it’s my dedication, strong work ethic, and genuine care for my clients that truly set me apart in the industry.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When looking for a mentor, choose someone whose work ethic you admire and whose artistry resonates with you.
