Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Duke.
Hi Olivia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started in Jacksonville, FL when one year received a camera for Christmas. I had taken photography classes in high school and always knew I had a love for capturing moments, being creative, and a love for the arts. I’ve had the privilege of taking classes, workshops, courses and learning from some of the top wedding photographers in the industry. I started photographing friends, and doing styled shoots to put my name and work out there and before I knew it, business took off and I was able to quit my 9-5 and become a full time photographer. Since becoming a full-time wedding photographer in 2017, I have photographed over 100 weddings. and counting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Just like anyone in business, it’s not easy! A lot of trial and error and ups and downs but I now say, if I survived the wedding industry during covid in 2020 I know I can handle anything.
My current struggle is that I wear every hat in my business. My goal is to make more while working less because I find that when I am able to rest, I am able to show up better for my clients but I tend to have trouble giving up control. I am making it a goal in this new year to delegate more of my task so I can focus more on what I actually enjoy doing and giving my clients the best experience possible.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in weddings, boudoir, and portrait photography and I enjoy photographing weddings in destinations all over the US and internationally! Each new year I end up booking more and more of my dream clients and destinations. and I’m proud of how I have marketed myself to reach my desired couples. Additionally, I am most proud of my expansion in my creativity. I am constantly trying to evolve my skills with composition, different light, and the way I connect with my couples in order to get the most authentic and artistic images.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in a family that loved to take annual trips and vacations and one family trip we took was unforgettable. I was maybe 7-8 years old when we visited Washington state. My dad loved to sail and while we were there he charted a sailboat and we all sailed around the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound. During our sail, we were fortunate enough to witness the J Pod of Orcas swimming all around and under our boat! It was truly breathtaking and unforgettable.
