Hi Lawanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since 2014, I started toying with the idea of wanting to start my own business, but had no idea of what it would look like. The following year, decided to loc my hair, as maintaining it became quite cumbersome due to my active lifestyle.
After having my hair loc’d (Sisterlocks) for a year, a light switch went on! See, growing up, I was the neighborhood hair braider, so this came natural for me. I loved styling natural hair and was good at what I did at such a young age.
In 2016, I took the Sisterlocks Certification class, quit my corporate job, and the rest was history! I took a leap of faith in an area that I knew I had a deep passion for. My business grew very quickly by word of mouth as being of the best here in Jacksonville, Fl! I offer a variety of Services such as: A Sisterlocks Mentorship Course, Microlocks Certification Class and a self retightening class for both Sisterlocks and Microlocks.
I am humbled and honored to have started the Sisterlocks journey for so many amazing women from across the state to as far as California! I take pride in what I do and my work shows that. I look forward to servicing even more women in the years to come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully it has been a smooth road for the majority of my time as a business owner.

Locs by Lawanda Inc. is a serene and professional home-based service located in Jacksonville, Florida. I’m an R-Certified Consultant, specializing in Sisterlocks® and Microlocks/Interlocks only.
I am most proud of the reputation that I have built for myself with offering stellar service and my space being inviting and serene.
What sets me apart from others in this field are my precision and speed at which I work. From what I have heard from others is, I am the fastest in the city with having clients done in less than two hours! There are not many of us across the field who can do this.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing the joy on women faces when they look at the finished product and the hair freedom it gives them! I get joy from others joy!
