Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Lux.
Kay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started working and managing Med Spa’s where my specialty as a trichologist was hyper focused on hair restoration and PRP. While those approaches could be helpful, I saw that they weren’t the right fit for everyone. That realization pushed me to look for a more in-depth, less invasive way to support scalp health. I was able to find a woman in Japan who has been doing Head Spa for 25 years willing to train me. I am beyond honored and blessed to have been able to receive a portion of her knowledge! That mixed with my trichology and holistic education has made it possible to help so many more people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a straight line. Creating a trichology-led head spa required balancing education, entrepreneurship, and consistency in an industry that often favors quick trends. Learning when to hold firm to my standards and when to adapt was one of the biggest challenges, but it’s also what allowed the business to grow with clarity and purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work centers on trichology-led scalp care and non-invasive hair restoration support. I specialize in understanding the scalp environment and creating personalized treatments that address underlying concerns rather than masking symptoms. I’m known for blending science, education, and restorative techniques inspired by Japanese head spa traditions, while keeping every treatment intentional and individualized. What I’m most proud of is building a space where clients feel truly seen and cared for, especially those who felt discouraged by one-size-fits-all approaches. The space itself was intentionally designed as a standalone environment, allowing the work to be unhurried, private, and fully centered on scalp health. What sets my work apart is that Lux Japanese Head Spa is grounded in trichology first — the experience is luxurious, but the foundation is thoughtful, informed care. We are also one of the only places that I have seen locally that offers insulin microneedling! I love being ahead of trends while also understanding the science!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is witnessing change — both physically and emotionally. I love seeing new hair growth appear in areas clients never thought possible, but I’m equally moved by the quieter moments. When someone comes in without expectations and I can feel their tension gradually release during treatment, that sense of trust and calm is incredibly meaningful to me. And of course, my Grandbabies.
