Kathryn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Safe Pet Rescue was founded in 2008 with the mission of saving animals from euthanasia. It started with two women, and the pets were kept in foster homes as we had no shelters. Over the years it has grown into a rescue with three facilities. To date, we have rescued approximately 30,000 pets!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a struggle from the very beginning! Safe Pet Rescue is an expensive undertaking. Insurance payroll maintenance of our facilities, our expenses are sky high.
There are many more pets that need our help than we are able to take. On a personal level, choosing who we take in is an emotionally draining.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Running a rescue is a 24/7 proposition! I managed the staff, respond to inquiries, arrange transportation.
I am most proud of our reputation, and the phenomenal support Safe has from our community.
I think one thing that sets us apart is that we will take dogs pets that have medical conditions so other rescues turn away. Also the fact that we have three facilities which makes it easier for people to see the pets available for adoption.
