Check Out Jervonnie Moody’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jervonnie Moody.

Jervonnie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my makeup journey fresh out of high school in 2015 with no intentions of doing anyone else’s makeup. I became obsessed with getting my makeup done by OG makeup artists in the city after I got my makeup done for my senior activities. I then realized it was something I was interested in and that I wanted to learn how to do my own. I dived straight into the YouTube world and watched a million videos a day, slowly buying products with my graduation savings. My mom realized how much I was interested in my new craft and began to request my services every time she’d get ready to go to an event. My friends then begin to let me practice on them, and that is when they really started to pressure me to take my craft more seriously and to accept clients. It wasn’t until a few years later and several jobs later as well that I decided working regular 9-5 jobs just weren’t for me. In 2018 around Valentine’s Day I launched my makeup business. I’m where I am today after plenty of tears, wasted time (it seemed), plenty of free work and deals on “models” and just hard work and dedication.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has absolutely not been smooth. When launching a business and a brand, you literally have to wear many hats. I’m the owner, the brand ambassador, the sponsor, the creative team and the promoter. As a young mom as well, I’d often find times where I’d be juggling promoting my business or even doing clients while watching my toddlers. I thought that clients would never return, but often times my clients would ask about my kiddos and even bare gifts.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a makeup artist, I’d find my style to be elegant and natural. I specialize in soft makeup and that is what majority of my clients come for specifically. My makeup style is suitable for photoshoots, high school senior festivities, and weddings. I’m most proud of how quickly I’ve grown as an artist and how I manage to retain my clientele. I have many returning/ loyal clients with nothing but nice things to say about my artistry! What sets me apart from others is my ability to not only do what’s asked of my clients but to also build relatable conversations and relationships with so many different people. I certainly have not always been so outgoing. I’m a naturally shy person.

How do you think about luck?
I believe in luck in some cases, but I also believe in consistency. A few years back, my word of the year was perseverance- doing something despite the difficulty. Starting a business and building the business from ground up is very hard. However, the more time you spend practicing and studying anything related to your craft, the better you’re literally growing to be. I’ve seen growth not only as a makeup artist but as a person as well. I’m more patient, understanding, outgoing, and able to make new friends. When you persevere you’re breaking all the obstacles set in your way mentally and physically.
