Today we’d like to introduce you to Janiece (JaLynn) Gilbert
Hi Janiece (JaLynn), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in the midwest and have always been an active person. Fitness and nutrition has always payed a role in my life, supporting the sports I participated in. Growing up I was a softball player and competitive figure skater. In my 20s and 30s I was a runner, completing several races and half marathons, and a cyclist, riding long distances and pushing my levels of endurance. I loved the challenge of it! Eventually this led to triathlons. In 2012, however, I underwent an unexpected back surgery, which included a lengthy rehab, and ultimately took me out of running and cycling. In an effort to find something different I could continue to push myself, I started spending more time in the gym and found a love of the bodybuilding world and started competing on the natural stage. In 2020 I received my natural bodybuilding figure pro card.
My education is inclusive of a bachelors degree in exercise science, and human performance and fitness, as well as a masters degree in both occupational therapy and health informatics. As of 2021 I was able to step away from full-time clinical work and lean into what I am most passionate about, fitness and nutrition coaching, helping people with sustainable change for improved health. I worked as an independent contractor for a few years prior to stepping into my very own business, just last year, Jalynn Lifestyle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning my own business has presented some challenges in that I started from ground zero. Growth can be slow, and I’ve found myself becoming a student of marketing strategies while also working a bit more in the clinical realm to support myself as I work through growing my own business. However, it is a challenge I have been grateful for. I am learning to push myself more and more out of my comfort zone and learning to better network with others. Being an introvert, this has been a bit of a challenge, but through support of good friends, old and new, I have been able to get more out of my shell and really connect with some amazing people and have acquired some wonderful clients! This entire transition into my own business has me growing in several ways, and that’s part of what excites me and what drives me. I’ve also loved being able to play a role in helping others change their daily habits for the better, to realize better health.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an online fitness and nutrition coach who offers customized meal and macro plans that are realistic, enjoyable and supportive of a healthy lifestyle, as well as personalized training and cardio programming designed for my clients’ unique needs with the resources they have available. I offer research-backed guidance with one-on-one support through weekly check-ins and detailed progress tracking. I’m here for my clients in that I provide accountability and support for them to stay focused and on track to reach their personal goals and create sustainable habits for life.
My clients range from parents looking to increase their energy and set an example for their children, mothers-to-be embracing a healthy, active pregnancy, or women navigating perimenopause and menopause. I also work with individuals needing fitness modifications for active living, or those managing high blood pressure or pre-diabetes to improve their health. Most of my clients are looking to lose weight, gain strength or live a healthier lifestyle to support healthy aging.
My clinical background as an occupational therapist gives me a unique perspective in my coaching, allowing me to approach health and fitness with a deeper understanding of movement, behavior change, and sustainable habits. I don’t just focus on workouts and nutrition—I help my clients create real, lasting lifestyle changes that fit their daily lives and abilities.
I am truly proud and grateful when clients entrust me with guidance and support to reach their goals, and feel so confident in my coaching that they refer their friends and family to me. I love seeing my clients take what they’ve learned and feel empowered to lead a healthy lifestyle. This all makes the difference to me… knowing what I’ve provided has really helped someone make a sustainable change for the better.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality to my success is my ability to combine knowledge, experience, and guidance in a way that truly resonates with my clients. My background in fitness and nutrition, paired with my clinical experience as an occupational therapist, allows me to approach coaching with a deep understanding of movement, nourishing the body, habit formation, and long-term lifestyle improvements. But beyond just knowledge, my strength lies in listening to my clients, understanding their challenges, and helping them realize that their big goals are absolutely achievable—one small, manageable step at a time. Through education, support, and a realistic approach, I empower them to create lasting changes without feeling overwhelmed.
