Check Out Disco Cowboy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Disco Cowboy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Disco cowboy was born at Suwanee Hulaween in 2021. What started as just a fun costume idea has now turned into a blossoming DJ persona and career. The outfit and entire vibe generated so much fun, buzz, and attention that I knew it was destined to be something more than just a costume. My background as Chris Anderson (my actual identity) has been in the concert and musical space since I was 19 years old, spending over 14 years. I was a touring musician for 10+ years and have now been working for Real Time Entertainment and management as a project manager in Festival production since 2018.

When I retired from touring as a musician, professionally and transitioned to working behind the scenes and festivals and events, I had always missed playing music for people. After Disco Cowboy was born, I realized that there could be potential in transitioning him to being an artist. I did not want to go back to playing in bands because the headache of dealing with bandmates and other people was just too frustrating. I have been producing my own electronic events in Jacksonville for a number of years under the name Disco Dreamland. While doing so, I was always around a lot of DJs, and it dawned on me that becoming a DJ could be a very fun way to get back into music. I bought a set of decks two years ago and began teaching myself how to DJ. Very quickly, I realized this was something I had a lot of passion for and really enjoyed and then started taking gigs and performing live. Once I got performing, I knew this was something I was destined to pursue.

When developing my sonic identity, obviously disco cowboy is a fan of disco music. My musical background was playing bass guitar and I was always a fan of Funk so I knew that playing funk and disco was going to be a great outlet for my sonic identity. Quickly, I found a niche and started to develop sets and incorporate disco funk in house in a way that not many other people were doing locally. This quickly gained some attention from a lot of fans, and has since continued to spread and create a unique atmosphere for my sets.

Since then I’ve played both hard and soft ticket events across the south east, including headlining Shipfest in Jacksonville, where we sold over 500 tickets, and a downtown Jacksonville show with 120+ tickets sold. I’m also excited to be hitting the festival stage at Hulaween 2024. I have also been featured as direct support to Grammy Award winner Purple Disco Machine at Decca Live in Jacksonville. As well as a direct support slot to Levity at a 2,000-person sold out 360 show in Arkansas. At every performance, I aim to bring a signature aesthetic, sometimes adding custom productions and décor to elevate the vibe even more.

With my disco-meets-western persona—complete with my iconic disco ball cowboy hat and my trusty sidekick, Cheddar the Horse—I bring a unique energy to every event. Whether it’s a club night, festival, or branded experience, my goal is always to deliver a crowd-focused, unforgettable set that stands out in today’s dance music scene.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been incredibly fast-moving and growing. In the short amount of time that I have become a DJ I have quickly gained Notoriety, and some incredible sets in performances across the south east. It almost feels like a rocket ship going upwards sometimes. I cannot wait to see where this thing takes Disco Cowboy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m Disco Cowboy—a DJ and performer with a passion for blending Disco House, Funk House, and Nu Disco into high-energy sets that keep the dance floor alive. I bring a strong stage presence and a deep understanding of branding and marketing, which helps me create immersive experiences that go far beyond just playing music.

I am most proud of my support sets to sold otu shows for – Purple Disco Machine / Levity and The Polish Ambassador as well as headlining a sold out Shipfest in jacksonville

What makes you happy?
Play music for people is the greatest gift in the world to me. Getting to connect with a crowd of people and put a smile on their face and make them dance is something unlike any other. Music is a universal language which is spoken by all, and when you are able to connect with people from all walks of life and make their day better, it is truly a blessing.
