Check Out Desiree Simmons’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Simmons.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So it all started with my makeup journey. I have always dreamed of becoming a model which leads me to venture into beautification. I enrolled in a program to further my dreams as a makeup artist. As time passed I became interested in photography. I was like let me figure out how to work this camera. I fell in love!! I never got to walk that runway or pose for a magazine but it’s something about being behind the camera creating and now having my work published in fashion magazines that really makes my heart smile. 2018 is when I really started to focus on creating a business for “Black Image Photography”. I purchased my first camera from a good friend of mine, it wasn’t freshly new out of the box but it was good enough and I still shoot with that camera to this day. I don’t believe I’ll ever give it away. Lol, I am entirely self-taught and have spent a lot of time practicing concepts to be where I am now. I’m just enjoying my journey with photography and can’t wait to see where it leads me in the future. Creating crafts has always been another passion for me. In 2020 I started a small plant potter business called “The Plant Ladies” which is wig heads turned into plant potters painted in every complexion with beautiful head wraps and big beautiful earrings. Starting this business was never my plan but like always I have to post everything on social media well not everything haha! But once everyone has seen my plant lady, the business just took off from there. I truly enjoy creating them & seeing people fall in love with them. I was born and raised in Callahan Florida, a very small town. I’ve been into arts and crafts since the 6th grade. I remember my mother always used to bring home these large whiteboards from her job and my sisters and I would just sit around the dinner table all day and draw every cartoon characters we could think of or whatever randomly comes to mind. I believe my love for plants came from watching how my grandmother cared for her plants and flowers, that’s all she ever did that I can remember or she was cooking or knitting. She was good at creating and I believe that’s where my creative side comes from.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth ride but every hiccup was a learning experience. I don’t believe any journey is easy. We all going to face tough times. I believe that it’s all about your faith and trusting God through the process and believing that he will pull you through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
